Cleveland trading Bauer is nuts. They are 2 GB the Twins and lead the WC race. Thy play in the easiest division by far and are 19 games over .500. Arguably they have a better starting staff than NYY or BOS. Unloading Bauer makes no sense from a competition standpoint, especially as the teams wanting him are us and NYY. Why improve your competition?
I really hope/expect the astros to land Greinke. There are too few rumors about Greinke going anywhere, which makes me think a team is in serious talks with the Dbacks about him and blowing smoke elsewhere to deflect.
Can one of you nerds explain how we got JV after the trade deadline in 2017?
Up until this year there were 2 deadlines. The one now and one at the end of August. During August a player had to clear waivers to be traded and most players routinely were placed on waivers and everyone played nice and players cleared them. It facilitated trades. That's the extra part that no longer exists.
There were two deadlines then, one non-waiver deadline (July) and one waiver deadline (August). Verlander cleared waivers in August and was free to be traded.
