I wonder if Hinch gave any thought with first base open to walk Goldschmidt there? He's only the best and hottest hitter on the Cards, and it would have set up a force at home or the double play.

I doubt it

Intentional walks don't really fit with the analytical approach.

It's a free base and the numbers say most of the time you're gonna get him out.

Has AJ ever intentionally walked someone?

Correa's AB was awful, but we took the lead in that half. That performance from Pressly was inexcusable. Just an abysmal outing. Cost us the game.

Chirinos has been a better offensive catcher that Realmuto by a fairly sizeable margin.

Realmuto isn't a big upgrade. Despite our lackluster night, the only weak hitter in our lineup is at Catcher.

Everywhere else is stacked

He's not as weak offensively as you think. Sure he's been not as good lately but he has a 118 wRC+(18% better than the average player) on the season.

The fWAR difference is 100% from dWAR.
