Exactly. Like last night in the top of the 8th, runners on 2nd and 3rd, two outs, and down by one. Kemp at the plate with a shift to the right side of the infield and the third baseman playing near the bag to hold the runner. If Kemp pokes one the other way to the location the SS traditionally plays at least one run scores. Instead a ground out to second and inning over.

Asking a guy to place a bunt perfectly between a pitcher and 3rd baseman is not an easy thing to do. You need to be a very skilled bunter to have confidence that you can place that bunt in the exact right location at the exact right speed. Bunted too softly and it doesn't get through. Bunted 1 yard to far to the right or left and they can field it.

Votto should never have been on base. He was struck out looking. Except he *****ed and got the ump to call a strike a ball. Why in the world a professional umpire listened to that I have no idea. Angel wouldn't have.

Also very possible the ump's zone just sucks. That second strike was well off the plate.
