Verlander, Morton and Cole were having rough years before we traded for them too

Cole and Morton were both over 4.00 the year before. Morton was at 4.82 and Cole was at 4.26

If Lunhow gets them ... then I trust him given his track record on pitchers

Yeah it's just a huge risk for such a late season acquisition to count on for the playoffs. Perhaps it's better than our current alternatives.

Zack Wheeler has been all over the place.

Ray has 2 years of control. His ERA is 3.91. His FIP is 4.26 (not good) but his xFIP is 3.68 (much better). His K/9 is 12.07 (really good) but his BB/9 is 4.05 (really not good). He's not predominantly a fly ball or ground ball pitcher but his HR/FB% is 20%.

He walks a lot of guys and when its in the air it tends to go a long way. Thats why his FIP is up and his xFIP is down. Stop the walks and you go a long way to fixing him.

Ray looks a lot better than Wheeler to me

Disagree. Wheeer should be cheaper and I think has much more upside.

Wheeler is a rental. ERA 4.71, FIP 3.65, xFIP 3.84. K/9 9.94, BB/9 2.46. Slightly more of a GB pitcher His HR/FB% is 13.6% so he's not giving up the HR nearly as much. Both he and Ray have WHIP in the 1.30 range.

Rental off the IL and given what the Mets did yesterday who knows what insane price they will want.

A few thoughts on how to quickly improve Wheeler.

Throw the curve more. It's his best pitcher statically and he only throws it 10-11% of the time.

Throw the sinker less. He's thrown it more this year than ever before and it's not a great pitch based on how it's hit.

Locate the four seamer up in the zone. It seems like Storm immediately gets his guys to throw the high heater. Based on the map he leaves it over the heat of the plate too often.

Based on velocity & movement baseball vacant compares him to 18 & 19 Gerrit Cole & 18 DeGrom. If that doesn't wow you then idk what will.

In Denver for work and scored a 2nd row club level ticket for Rockies vs Dodgers tonight. Maybe I'll get a Tyler White appearance

The Astros have had several pitchers in the past ditch their sinker with great results (McHugh and Cole come to mind immediately)

At Great Divide Brewery taproom near Coors field wearing my Astros WS Championship hat and a bunch of Dodger fans walked in... I feel like the least popular person in the room and I love it

You should tell them that Tubbie was your favorite player and that they absolutely stole him. Encourage them to chant his name and root for him to play 1B more.

We need them to lose more for home field advantage.

Is home field in WS based on record, now? No more All Star game winner?
