If Chirinos can keep his average above .260 this season like it is now and supply the occasional power, I'd say that's a huge acquisition this offseason

Especially worth how miserable and useless Stassi is at the plate.

Rangers must really hate their bullpen. Lynn up to 119

Kyle Tucker could be making a case to be called back up as well if Altuve goes on the IL. He is 3-3 tonight with his 10th HR and has his avg up to .233 with a .837 OPS. It was pretty close to .100 not that long ago.

Diaz doesn't look ready for the #2 hole.

I guess 3-4-5 will each move up a spot

Great game. Verlander was stout and the bottom of the order swung some lumber.

J.T. who?

don't need him. Got Chirinos
Chirinos is great.

The real test of whether the Realmuto pass was correct or not it's going to be whether Tucker can be a great major league baseball player. Doesn't have all that much do with Chirinos...Because Chirinos is going to come back down to earth and be closer what he has been, and even if he doesn't Realmuto is the better catcher.

Future all star Tucker plus the year of renting Chirinos and then the same problem next year because Stassi sucks and we don't have anyone on the farm is still better than Realmuto... but that has more to do with Tucker than anything else.

Interesting read:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.crawfishboxes.com/platform/amp/2019/4/26/18518004/the-prince-and-the-pauper-the-differing-fortunes-of-robinson-chirinos-and-max-stassi

Quote:

Lost amid the early season success of Chirinos is an xBA of .149, which when considering the hit probabilities of Chirinos' batted balls using exit velocities and launch angles, suggests that Chirinos' batting average ought to be more than 120 points lower. Chirinos' xSLG is also far below his actual SLG, coming in at .263. Both his xBA and xSLG rank last on the team.

Quote:

Chirinos continues to post a negative value for framing, with -0.5 FRA. Meanwhile, in his 8 starts, Stassi ranks 4th in the league in framing with 1.3 FRA.

The TL;DR summary...

Quote:

At the plate, Robinson Chirinos is not this good. Max Stassi is not this bad. Any small differences offensively are likely made up for in their differences defensively.

What does the X on those stats signify?

Also, I feel like this is one of those things were probabilities aren't that meaningful. Those same stats you highlighted for Chirinos, according to the article, are just as bad for Stassi. Yet Chirinos is actually producing in reality.

As someone said earlier, he'll likely have a regression, but will Stassi ever have a run? Not based on "probability."

Chirinos has never played 81 games at Minute Maid Park.

that's what throws off some of the analysis that relies on past seasons.

his career OPS at MMP is 1.017 in 125 plate appearances

Stassi has had periods of good production. I wouldn't write him off yet.

Chirinos is also batting in a better lineup with more scoring opportunities which can only help.

Not saying his numbers are sustainable, but I don't think it is a fact he goes back to his Ranger stats either.

Let's face it, playing for the Astros is just funner than playing for the Rangers. How productive would you be if you had to work with a bunch of homos and Ranger fans! If I knew I was gonna get grabbed in the junk for hitting a home run, I would be pretty adverse to hitting home runs!!!
