Whitey pinch hinting for Correa?

Hope they're just resting him?

Not sure what machete is *****ing about. That was right on the edge and it's been much wider all night for both sides. Bregman in particular has something to complain about

7 innings is enough to lower his ERA from 5.28 to 4.30.

Not sure that was a "push". It was more like a slam of the door.

Very nice outing by the bird. 12ks to 3 hits of shutout ball. Nice way for the rotation to bounce back from last night.

One thing I appreciate about this thread is that it feels like we are all having a conversation we'd be having in the stands.

Would you be telling spadilly to stfu if he started talking about a no-no?
if Spadilly had friends like us in real life he would have learned long ago not to make those types of comments.

I like to occasionally check up on former Astros and prospects we have traded away. I mostly root for them to do well (other than Giles & Carlos Gomez).

I was looking at the Pirates guys from the Cole trade and was surprised to see that:

  • JB Shuck has basically been a starter for them (not doing well, .595 OPS)
  • Jordan Lyles is in their rotation (2.20 ERA & 29K in 32 IP!!!) - hard to believe this guy is still only 28.
  • Fran Liriano - 1.08 ERA in 16 innnings of relief

Cole trade guys:
  • Musgrove - 2.63 ERA, 32K in 37 IP - he and Lyles have been their top 2 SP.
  • Feliz - 6.75 ERA in 5 IP
  • Moran - .239/.304/.408
  • The 4th guy Jason Martin has made his MLB debut but hasn't done much so far. He's the #11 prospect in their organization.

Love seeing Musgrove continue to have success! Loved that guy!

Musgrove was the only guy I was upset to lose in that trade. We could use him this year

Lyles went to Colorado in the Dexter Fowler trade.

Yes. That's why I put "Cole trade guys" over the guys from the Cole trade as opposed to just former Astros.

I feel the same, but I'm sure the trade wouldn't have happened without him. Time will tell whether it was worth it to send him or not.

The Athletic has a couple recent Astro related articles. Yesterday one about Yordon Alvarez and how he's a mixed bag among scouts, largely due to lack of position. Today there is one about whether or not the offense will be better than 2017.

I'm pretty sure they are both pay articles, but sometimes you can read articles for free in the app.

Quote:

They enter Thursday night's series opener against the Rangers batting .275/.348/.493 with a major-league best 127 OPS+. Unlike the 2017 team, they don't lead the majors in both slugging and strikeout rate. They do, however, have an absurd .265/.265/.412 line in 0-and-2 counts. The major league average is .143/.150/.224.

I think teams in the AL have a perfect position for players without a position

If we don't have an issue playing White, Diaz, and even Stassi at 1B then we shouldn't have an issue playing Yordon there.

1B is easy. Have they never seen Moneyball?

The article says bc Hinch likes to spread out DH at bats among regular starters it makes Alvarez less attractive as a DH-only player. Also, scouts apparently think less of his ability to play left than the Astros do, but they are working in more time at 1st.

Article also cites concerns over health and how his body can hold up over the next few years, bc he's so big.

Either way, everyone loves his hitting and expect he'll be up at some point.

Alvarez can be our Scott Hatteberg
