Every seemingly minor edge can matter immensely in a postseason series, and the sweeping slider that revived Peacock's major league career in 2017 has the potential to be a difference-maker. Of all the weapons the Astros can deploy from their bullpen, it is one of the most difficult for right-handed batters to hit.
Before his latest IL stint, he held righties this season to a combined .180/.251/.302 batting line in 191 plate appearances. Among Houston's pitchers, only side-armer Joe Smith's .460 opponent OPS against righties is better than Peacock's .554, and it has come in a dramatically smaller sample size.
Peacock started against the Yankees in June and struck out 11 batters without issuing a walk in six innings of two-run ball. If he's unable to make it back for the playoffs, Smith would figure to be the Astros' primary right-handed specialist to face the likes of Judge, Snchez and Stanton in the middle innings.
