It's not just this. His comment when asked about an extension early in spring training by the media was basically to laugh and roll his eyes. He's about to hit his first free agency. He wants money. Every player does. I don't blame him. Scott boras is his agent, so it'll take eleventy billion dollars to sign him. The Astros don't spend money on long expensive contracts in free agency. Bregman was different since he's still under control for more years.

I don't know, maybe that's just his personality, but his attitude seems a lot different after he went through arbitration than it was last year after getting traded. Just my opinion. I'm sure the Astros will give him a qualifying offer so a draft pick is tied to him since he's the most unlikely of the free agents to accept one.

once Bregman got his $20 MM per contract to go with Altuve's $29 MM per contract...the door closed on keeping both of them.

there's a limit to how many players the 'stros can have at one time in the $20MM+ club. Four is likely too many (unless one of the contracts is a short one)

also his performance in Game 2 of the ALCS at Fenway...yeesh, the front office may have a tough time getting that out of their minds.

it was quite the contrast from JV's performance the game before

He seems like the type of pitcher that's a proven workhorse though and ages gracefully, so I'd probably stretch to 66/2

I don't think Cole is frustrated with the club. I think he was more frustrated answering questions about reports that weren't accurate.

We probably made an offer to Boras. Boras probably made some ridiculous demand. Both parties probably agreed to table the discussions for now and potentially revisit after the season.

Just part of the biz. No hard feelings. Cole is still plenty incentivized to be a good clubhouse presence and pitch his ass off.
