I'm curious which Harper we would see. His big year of 42 HR and .460 OBP is four years distant come February. Now in year 8 of service, say he settles in as a .280 hitter with 30 homers and .400-ish onbase percentage for the next four years- with the remaining future unknown because of health and performance impacts. Is that worth $300 million?
I'm not saying his best years are done or anything. I'm just not sure this organization will be one to jump into the 10-year contract waters like the Angels did with Pujols years ago.
