Agree with a lot of that, but he's not a plus defender at SS, at least he wasn't last year. Below average at SS for his career. Decent at 3B and a bit above average as an OF.

Does NYY have any big time prospects anymore? Feel like they've made some pretty high profile trades lately.

Good point. I just quickly scanned fangraphs defense metric and saw it was a positive number. He's a played very little outfield, but he has played it. Bet he can fill in left field like Marwin did.

I don't agree with this, depending on the other details of course.

Also, I wanted to trade Bregman for sale so...

Yep. I think he's a bat that wont' hurt you and can fill in around the diamond as needed. If we have a similar situation with Carlos this year, I think he's better at 3B, with Bregman filling in at SS. If he's our utility players, his bat certainly plays and he'll provide average to just slightly below average defense. That's not horrible. He's 80% of Marwin at the least, at a cost of $2MM with 4 total seasons of control. It's a good way to deploy resources elsewhere. If we can make up the difference at C and DH, this is a plus move overall.

I'm also always interested to see what kind of things this coaching staff can do with his approach. Remember Marwin was a punch and judy type hitter until the Astros had him lower his hands and add loft to his swing.

Haha. That's pretty good. I think Whitley could be a big add to the rotation this year and I think he's gonna be a stud, so I'm good with them not giving him up for Paxton.

I trust Luhnow, BUT we need to patch this rotation together somehow and we might need to give us some prospects

So JL didn't want to include Whitley. Meaning it would be Whitley and then some.

F that.

Once again the front office sticks to it's valuation of a player and doesn't overpay. They're locked in

I don't even see how it's newsworthy that we didn't include Whitley for Paxton. Of course Luhnow didn't trade our best prospect for an injury prone two year rental. That would be among the least "Luhnow" moves ever.

I feel like someone leaked that to Morosi hoping to stick it to the Astros org. Lots of sour grapes out there these days.

I would have been kind of pissed if we had given up Whitley for Paxton.

Me too...til he got called up and TEDded the bed.

But our stud pitching prospects definitely pay quicker dividends than position players lately so lets hope thay continues.

good to get Paxton out of the West. Would only face him a maximum of 2 times in the regular season...instead of 6. Mariners are in rebuilding mode...and that's good.

no way would Whitley be traded inside the division. Mariners are nuts too

I hope Jeff laughed in the Mariners GM's face when they asked for Whitley.

Would love to see Grayson Long with the Astros, but he probably isn't ready to stick in the majors especially after missing all of last year with injury.

I'm not sure what they were ranked in NY's system, but the three prospects sent over for Paxton are now 1, 9, and 14 in the Mariner's system, so there's likely some legitimacy to the tweet about not including Whitley killing a deal. I think the Yankees overpaid, And I'm glad we didn't. Whitley might not match Paxton's production next season, but I bet he gets close the year after that and ultimately proves to be the better pitcher. Let's be honest, Paxton against the rest of baseball is not near as good as Paxton agains the Astros. I think Astros fans would be expecting more from him than we would have gotten.

I am shocked the Yankees gave up their #1 pitching prospect for a 30 year old pitcher who has never pitched more than 160 innings and who has been good but not great. The Yankees have been really shrewd on most of their recent deals, but at this time, this one seems like the Yankees overpaid.

Boston winning yet another WS is probably making them more restless.

Their hated, bitter rival winning the AL East, winning 108 gamess, beating them in the ALDS and winning the WS may have had something to do with their decision making process.

I think the Yankees are about to to burn free agency to the ground for everyone else.

Per Baseball America, they ranked #1, #11, and in the low 20s. For us, that would be Tucker, Framber, & Abraham Toro (per mlb.com). There is no way I do that trade. I would feel a lot better is someone like Perez or Martin headlined the trade with Framber.

They may and we could still kick their ass if we may a few good moves too.

The Yankees' #1 prospect Sheffield ranks #30 on the MLB.com top 100 prospects. Tucker and Whitley are #5 and #8 respectively.

Tip of the cap to Adrian Beltre who announced his retirement today.

I loved watching that guy play, except for when he was crushing the Astros. First ballot Hall of Farmer who loves the game.

Id give up Tucker if Goldy signed an extension.

I would do JB, Martin or Framer, Fisher, plus a position player in the low 20s. Think that would be enough?
