I hope your dead ass wrong. I'd love to get DK back on a multi year deal for a reasonable amount. Pitchers get hurt. The more proven options we have the better.

To simply rely on prospects is the wrong move imo, given our window.

I'd like to get Dallas back too on a shorter term deal. But I just can't see it happening.

We're not simply relying on prospects. We signed a back end starter. We had 3/4 type starter in our bullpen already, and we might have another (Peacock). We could see 0 prospects in our rotation on opening day.

However, we have Framer, Perez, Martin, James, Whitley, Rogers, & JB. By shear numbers alone some of these guys should work out. We're not going to be able to keep Cole, JV, & Dallas. They're going to age and decline eventually too. Our window is open and we need to continue to go for it while also working to keep the window open for as long as possibly. Using the #1 and a few other top 100 type pitching prospects in the back end of a rotation lead by Cy Young talent on the front end is the right think to do.

if you aren't watching on tv, he decided to see how throwing 93mph fastballs down the center of the plate worked....it didn't

It also seems like teams have learned not to chase the CoD, and he's a one trick pony

Weren't they counting on Devo to be the 'lefty specialist'?

Sipp is still on the market. May be time to call his agent.

I looked up Devo's spring training stats hoping to find terrible numbers and say "tap the brakes, he's always been a slow starter"...but he's got a 2.80 ERA in 40+ innings of spring training.

But still, it's one bad outing.

A was always a huge NL guy and hated the DH. But playing in the AL is better IMHO for the Astros (it is after all the media's League) I'm even okay if the DH is added to the NL now.

Fat Elvis destroyed Cincy. I looked up the careers #s and it didn't disappoint.

174 games (just over 1 full seasons worth of games)
52 HR
144 RBI
137 Runs
.314 Avg
.431 Obp
.656 Slug
1.087 Ops

I'm struggling to find the career vs. the Reds stats, but at one point in 2008 Roy was 22-1 vs. CIN in 27 appearances.

23-3
2.81 ERA
218.0 IP (over 6.2 per game)
1.147 WHIP
7.2 SO9
3.13 K/BB because of only 56 walks across that 218 innings

Looking at that breakdown, he was even nastier against the Rockies, albeit in a smaller sample size. (Since this is a Rockies thread after all )

I want expansion. Add a team in San Antone & Nashville or New Orleans.

Create new divisions of 4.

Shuffle leagues for a few teams to make common sense divisions.

Change the playoffs to one wildcard. Make the WC winner play the worst division winner in a 3 games series for the final spot.

It's gonna happen. Except the reduced playoff...

It's not really reduced. 5 teams still. We could keep 6 but then you start introducing byes.

Interesting note at the end of that tweet on Dallas... Philly seemed like a logical landing spot for him.

I'm really interested to see what happens with Keuchel. He and Boras definitely value him higher than the open market. But instead of adjusting to that, they just put the blame on the tanking teams and how screwed up MLB free agency is. Is he going to sit out the season if he doesn't get what he's asking?

The Harper saga is very fluid and there's so much posturing/misinformation out there, but it's starting to seem like the Phillies might be the only team offering him the 10 year deal he wants, just not for the supposed ~$350mm price that Harper/Boras are looking for.

After the Phillies ownership met with Harper in Vegas last week, Boras via Heyman's Twitter floated the idea of a shorter term deal with the Dodgers or Giants... presumably to get leverage over the Phillies front office and get them to pony up the extra $__ million it will take.

Sounds like the Phillies are now playing it the other way via Phillips' Twitter... basically telling Boras/Harper that they're out unless Boras/Harper lower their ask.

I'm pretty stumped on who breaks the stalemate. Surprised Harper is letting Boras play this thing out for so long. Presumably he could sign a 10 year, ~$300 million deal with the Phillies today and go play ball. If he ends up settling for a shorter term deal, I can't imagine how much we'll have to listen to Boras complain.

Even more stumped on Keuchel. Maybe he's just waiting to see which team with money misses out on Harper, but it's seems very difficult to imagine someone is going to go 5+ years with him.

My guess is he wants to play in LA but not for what they're offering. He doesn't want to play Philly unless they make it worth his while.

Boras is just using SF to see who budges first.

Didn't see this discussed, but may have missed it. Read a McTaggart article yesterday that mentioned the team leaning towards 12 pitchers and 13 position players to start the season- with White, Kemp and Marisnick all included. Specific note was made to White and Kemp being out of options, but isn't Marisnick also in that situation? Not much room on the roster, regardless.

The Astros have 4 off days in April, but even still the back end of the rotation better hold up or our pen will be done before summer...
