I'm very pro Jed coming back. Based on his salaries he's been underpaid all of his career. This next contract will continue that unless he completely falls off. Which I doubt because the last 2 seasons have been 2 of his best.
He is 35, though. Something to keep in mind.
Another reason why he's going to be cheap. Add him to Diaz and I'd say we sured up any hole Marwin left and improved at DH. Not leaps and bounds but it's done in a manner where we can spend for Evoldi, Britton, Ramos types.

Seems steep for a backup catcher.
Likely had to pay a one-year premium. Probably could have gotten him cheaper on a two-year deal.

I hate to say anything negative about guys that helped us win the WS, but...
What if we had been stuck with one more year of Beltran? Or McCann? You think we are ever going to wish we had signed the Reddick or Yuli contracts for one year longer than they currently are?
Morton is about the only guy north of 30 I wish we had signed for one extra year, but that's also because he was a diamond in the rough and we got him relatively cheap, unlike the guys above...but it's equally likely with him that he has some sort of injury where he is so limited this season that we dodged a bullet.
So yeah, I'm all for the one-year contract for the mid-30s catcher even if it means paying a little more. I'd say lease him month by month if we could!

not sure how I feel about Chirinos. Defensively he was not very good last year, and we obviously saw in the playoffs how glaring it is when games matter.

I think Goldy wants to come home to Houston being that he's from the Woodlands. Would be great for us to get him. Have Yuli as primary DH/Utility player.

I think there's a very slim possibility that the mystery player is Harper so I deal that isn't enormous. He wants to play for a team that is a real contender. In reality we were a real big bat and the bullpen pitching horribly away from going to back to back WS.
I have no problem with the Chirinos move. The Astros see something they like, and he is probably a stop-gap until Stubbs gets his shot.
