Something must have happened for him to just be out with basically a week left in the season. I'm excited for the changes though.

I think it's criminal. Jon Daniels should be the one fired. The fact he has no accountability is absurd.

Just based on the reports and Bannister's personality, I'm guessing he inquired about his job security and they couldn't/wouldn't tell him with 100% confidence he was returning and so he peaced out.
I wonder if Bannister marched in and made an ultimatum and got shown the door?
Bannister was a great choice at the time to replace the Old School Brothuh. But this is a different time and team.

"communication issues" seems to be the main theme for his ouster. I guess once word leaked that he was probably gone, they went ahead and did it so that he and the players wouldn't be asked about it repeatedly for the remaining games.

I never really thought Banister was the problem. I remember that game in 2015 against the Astros where he got in the middle of the "brawl" and told Hinch to back down. The team clearly bought into him and his message after that.
Maybe his personality and lack of communication wore off on everybody once the winning dried up. Anything he gained in supporting his players he lost in terrible assistant coaches

He's one of those old school hardasses, and that act almost always has a relatively short shelf life in baseball.
He had a year left on his deal and the Rangers don't lame duck managers. So my guess is the decision to move on was likely made (and some rumors were clearly seeping out), Banny is the tough guy type to demand to know where he stands, and they decided not to bull**** him and just end it.

In all seriousness, JD built those 2 AL champs. Not Nolan. JD rebuilt that team into a repeat division champ. Not Nolan. JD hasn't been perfect in acquistions, but he's made a lot of good ones. And one area he has been very strong in is when to let expensive guys walk (Hamilton, Yu, etc).
Now the organization is paying fornsome of the young capital spent on those division championships, but that is not unexpected. They've got a good young lineup, but the pitching needs work. But I don't think this has to be an extended rebuild.

Let's see, JD is responsible for Elvis, Beltre, Guerrero, Neftali Felix, Ogando, Harrison, Cliff Lee, Colby Lewis, Nelson Cruz, David Murphy, Cliff Lee.... that's just off the top of my head

Curl84 is obviously an astro sock. Dude NEVER posts in this forum, until the day the Rangers fire Bannister.
Nolan was a major part of identifying, selling, and landing Beltre and other moves, especially many acquisitions of the veterans. [source: people within the front office from Pre-2008-2014ish]
But alas, JD is the one still with the job and Nolan and Banister are the ones who aren't here, so why re-litigate that for the 50th time?

I thought Banister did a pretty good job this year, but going younger is certianly the trend and now is a good time to make a change. Have to at least appear to be on the upswing heading into the new stadium.
Nolan Ryan was a figurehead within the organiation under JD's tenure that used his position to sell hot dogs and mislead the ignorant into believing he had something to do with the product on the field. He was also an overrated pitcher that isn't even in the top 5 pitchers of my lifetime. JD was responsible for the Latin American and Asian focus of our scouting department that has lead to players like Ogando, Mazara, Darvish, etc. being added into the conventional talent acquisitions through trades and the draft.
