Worth nothing that Elvis has an opt-out after next season as well, so there is a scenario where he can stay another year.

Could come into play if he wants to play another season with Adrian, wants to play a full season to increase his FA value, or just wants to see how the team is looking next season. If Texas improves next season then I could see him staying on to be the face of the franchise if Texas feels they are going to be contenders.

I absolutely hate opt-outs in contracts, especially multiple opt-outs... but hard to fault Texas too much, as they've more than got their money's worth out of Elvis already.

If Elvis opts out. I think he's gone. And I think he opts out.
I wonder if the Rangers are in discussions to extend him.

If the Rangers think he is going to opt-out... it would not surprise me to see Andrus either extended or traded before the deadline.

I think the "Beltre would like to stay in Arlington" is a balloon floated out by Boras, to get him an extension. Stir up the fans that he wants to stay, and the mean ole Rangers want to trade him.

Take Beltre off the table, so more teams are looking at Machado.

With all of the talent set to be FAs, Boras is busy pulling strings to maximize his clients.

Kershaw, Harper, et al, will skew the market. With the Dodgers and Yankees both bringing down their payrolls for Luxury Tax reasons, you have to wonder if there will be enough money to go around for all the potential FAs.

If Andrus has any thoughts on being with the Rangers in 2019, I agree, the Rangers are going to want confirmation on the opt-out decision. JD has always tried to leverage the talent so as to not be desperate. Profar is a backup plan for either Beltre or Andrus and IKF helps, as well.

If neither Beltre, nor Andrus bite on an extension, the Rangers will be infused with a ton of talent and be dramatically different.

Sell: Hamels, Beltre, Andrus, Chirinos, Kela, Diekman, Claudio.

I'd keep Kela and Claudio. You're not going to get much in return for Chirinos

Bullpen pieces aren't worth holding on to in a rebuild, which the Rangers will be if they sell everyone next month.

So taking my youngest kid to the Ranger game Wednesday night. He wants to get there early to hopefully get a batting practice home run ball or an autograph or two.

We actually grabbed some nice tickets up close (row 1, third base side) from stubhub, which are surely somebodies season tickets that they sold on stubhub. Anybody know the process for allowing season ticket holders in 2.5 early? Just show them the ticket, or do season ticket holders have an id card of some sort that we would have to provide?

From the Rangers website:

Gates Open

All gates will open two hours prior to game time for night games and one and a half hours prior to game time for afternoon games. The season ticket holder entrance at Home Plate Gate will open two and a half hours prior to game time for night games. All gates will open three hours prior to first pitch on Opening Night. Guests are encouraged to arrive early to watch batting practice, infield workouts, and pre-game ceremonies. Gate openings are subject to change.

Another year on an important day and you would need the STH ID. Wednesday night game this year, I would be shocked if anyone cared at all.

Update: we were there 2.5 hours early, not much of a line, but they were definitely checking for STH ID's to get in early. People were sent to the other line that didn't have them. The Stub Hub tickets did show up in the MLB Ballpark app, including a STH ID (but if you clicked on the STH ID it said to contact the ticket office or something like that). But them seeing the tickets and the (apparent) STH ID in the app was good enough, they let us through. And thank goodness, only reason we were there that early was for my kid.... and he cleaned up. Got two toss up baseballs during pregame (from Kela and Diekman). Also go a pic and autograph from Mark McGwire (he is now a coach for the Padres), plus several other Rangers and Padres.

Then during the game we had good seats near the field just beyond the end of the netting on the third base side. He got another toss up ball from the security guy down the third base line on a foul ball. THEN.... he got yet another (#4!) ball on a hard foul ball down the line that was smoked. He had his glove on and got a glove on it as everyone around us ducked, fell straight to his feet and he quickly picked it up for ball # 4 on the night.

Was the best dad/youngest son outing we've had. He was (and still is) stoked. He specifically wanted to go to a midweek game against a lesser team like the Padres so he'd have a better shot of a small crowd and more baseball and autograph opportunities. It wound up being a win all around. Plus the Rangers won as well. Totally worth the 3.5 hour drive up to Arlington.

BP sessions are the best. I remember when I went to Game 3 of the ALDS my grandma almost got smoke by a Moreland HR. Still have the ball from that

Really excited about the way Rougie is playing on both sides of the ball for the last month or so. Seems to have turned it around.

Didn't realize Maz was hampered by a hammy. Why is he still in a 10-1 ballgame?

Geez, I almost feel bad for the white Sox. They really suck.

My mom is a huge Beatles and Rangers fan. I saw that they have Rangers hats with The Beatles on it. If anyone has one that they're looking to sell I'd be interested! Let me know.

They have won 11 out of 13.

We don't even know how to properly tank a season, apparently

I'm not so sure I would surrender Hamels for nothing but a salary dump. The media seems to believe he won't even get us a decent prospect. With the way we are playing, I'd rather ride it out.

At least get us a Willie Calhoun type.

Cant believe MLB allowed them to do that.

Hamels isn't a salary dump - Texas could just decline the 2019 option on him if they wanted to dump his salary.

The idea is Texas picks up his salary in a trade to sweeten the prospect pot. Texas has plenty of money, what they don't have is prospect talent.
