Hamels sucks

As ridiculous as this might sound, if I was the GM of a contender looking for a pitcher to bolster the lineup in the second half I'd think about trading for Bartolo before I traded for Hamels. Guaranteed to keep you in the game for six innings and his contract is nothing. Rather that than Hamels who will look like an ace one in every 5 starts

Cole had a 3.20 ERA in May.
Cole had a 3.34 ERA in June.
Bartolo had a 4.22 ERA in May.
Bartolo had a 7.36 ERA in June.
"Ridiculous" would be an understatement.

Maybe it's just the new normal when it comes to draft pick compensation change making trade deadline deals less "mega", but it sure does seem like we are snakebit every time we have a bad season and guys we need to move... Either their performance drops their trade value or the market just isn't there (Darvish).

3. Cole Hamels, Rangers: Having altered his pitch mix a bit from last season, the veteran still appears to have plenty left in his tank. Hamels has relied less on his four-seam fastball this year, throwing his cutter more often (27.6 percent of the time in 2018; 18.9 percent in '17) with success. He has also continued to fare well with his curveball (.114 BAA) and changeup (.209 BAA). While no traded arm will likely perform as well as Justin Verlander did following his move to Houston last August, Hamels' playoff pedigree gives him an edge over the other hurlers likely to be dealt this summer. The veteran has been a proven winner under the brightest lights, compiling a 3.48 in 16 career postseason starts.
Prediction: Hamels joins the Yankees for a package of infielder Brandon Drury plus right-hander Chance Adams (New York's No. 4 prospect) or Justus Sheffield (MLB.com's No. 41 prospect).

Willie Calhoun is batting .343/.366/.500 over the last 30 days. In 112 trips to the plate, he's drawn only four walks, and he's fanned only eight times. I need to dig into the numbers to find where the power went. Calhoun should surpass last year's 27 doubles soon, but he's going deep less than one-third as often as last year.
yeah, he's an ill fit given the other ill-fitting parts they have, and something just seems off about the relationship with the organization so far. i wouldn't be surprised if he's used to beef up the return they get on a trade of one of the vets.cmiller00 said:
Wouldn't totally surprise me to see Calhoun as part of a trade where we get a group of prospects back.

Calhoun was not all they got for Darvish.
Adams had been dominate since being converted from a RP the last two years in the minors. This year has been a different story as he had a chance at the roster out of spring then has been terrible all year in AAA. He has struggled to keep his era below 5.00 (4.97 at the moment.) Sheffield has the prospect pedigree and was great at AA this year but took his lumps after being promoted to AAA. He has since settled down and has a sub 3.00 ERA now in both AAA and on the season combined. He is definitely the better "prize" and also a lefty.RetiredAg said:

Would be thrilled to get a top 50 prospect for Hamels, especially a pitcher at AAA. I don't follow them, so don't really know much about the prospects listed.
Beltre plays 2019. He signs a 1year deal and announces he'll retire at the end of the season.KT 90 said:

Short version is if Beltre plays in 2019, he wants to be with the Rangers. A trade is still possible this season, but with other 3B's on the market as well, we not as likely as you might think.
