The opposite is getting talent back for him along with getting some, if not all, of his salary covered. Just dumping a guy and getting nothing but some of his salary covered is still a pennies-on-the-dollar situation. Just a few more pennies.

As horrible as Chirinos has been... he is now listed as day-to-day.

Insert Juan Centeno - a 28 year old... career .232 hitter who is... **wait for it** A left-handed bat. **cough**

This his 6th MLB season, has achieved the height of 55 GP with Minnesota back in 2016. He is listed as 5'9"/195.

Speaking of Bengie Molina... what is he doing these days.

Choo wRC+ prior to signing with Rangers w/Indians and Reds - 150, 134, 145, 106, 130, 150

Choo wRC+ w/Rangers - 101, 128, 105, 107

And, just for example, in those 105 and 107 seasons w/Rangers above...OBP was above 350. His contract was only money well spent if you think 7 for 130 should get you just barely above league average value in terms of batting. Also just a reminder that he's been a butcher in the field and has to be DH'd in hopes he doesn't get hurt.

Probably a bad signing...probably bad ROI.

It amazes me how our catcher situation has been a revolving door for the last 10 years. Some have been good, some have been bad. There's just never been a set of 3-4 years of consistency at the position.

F Lucroy. Could have stabilized it, but choked in 2016 and spent last season in temper tantrum mode.

There are very few teams with consistent catching, IMO.

Banny being Banny....

Quote:

"I don't think our catching is an area of concern, but I don't think you can have enough quality catching," said Banister. "We know on any given night, one of these guys can go down."
LOL.

I love that guy.

Rangers did sign Cameron Rupp (formerly of the Phillies) a couple days ago. He is in Round Rock, but if Chirinos is down for any period of time or if Centeno can't get it done. At least Rupp is a RH batter. Also have Brett Nicholas in Round Rock as well.

At this point I don't think there is much question that it is a bad contract, given his level of production for the money. It's just a matter of getting as much value as we can for the money we are paying. He isn't good in the OF to begin with, plus he is more injury prone out there playing in the field. DH is pretty much all we can do with him (aside from an occasional fill in start in the OF).

Nobody is taking his bad contract off our hands without the Rangers paying for the majority of it. He's an ok player, gets on hot streaks at times. Just not worth the money we are paying him.

Day Game today.

2:35 start.

Perez looks like he has spent some time at the Buffet with Bartolo Colon.

I was going to predict 7.1 IP, 3H, 1 ER, before the game started, but had to take care of business before I could post..

Day game after a night game... Oakland (P park).

We heard so much from Raymond how Perez has stepped up into the leadership role... I'm pretty jazzed.

That A's pitcher is Daniel Mengden, who played for the Ags 4-5 years back.

Perez with a big lead should be interesting.

I think his debut was against the Rangers in a day game against Colby Lewis... when Lewis had that great game.

I'm taking the under on 7.1 IP

I'm trying to be optimistic.

Line: 5.1, 3ER, 10 H, 0 BB, 1 K, 76PC.

reading the box score to catch up, any idea why Elvis tried (unsuccessfully) to steal third with one out in the fourth. Why must we run ourselves out of potential big innings like this

For those interested in the futures:

AAA (Round Rock): 7:05
David Ledbetter (26-RHP; 5'11"/190) - 2017 (AAA): 13GS, 4.31, 1.44, 71.0 IP, 46 SO, 36 BB
Drafted 2013/3d Rd out of Cedarville University

AA (Frisco): 7:05
Collin Wiles (23-RHP; 6'4"/222) - 2017 (AA): 25GS, 4.86 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, 150.0 IP, 107 SO, 28 BB
Drafted 2012/CompA out of Blue Valley West HS

A+ (Down East): 6:30 ET
Emerson Martinez (23-RHP; 6'0"/190) - 2017 (A+): 19GS, 4.19, 1.30, 116.0 IP, 93 SO, 27 BB
Drafted: Intl FA Vz

Funny from last year:

A (Hickory): 7:00 ET
Tyler Phillips (20-RHP; 6'5"/200) - 2017 (A): 4 GS; (A-Sh): 13 GS, 3.45, 1.22, 73.0 IP, 78 SO, 11 BB

Some of these guys had additional IP at other levels. For Phillips, I used the Short season, because I was accuesed of not respecting sample sizes and he had better numbers in Spokane.

I may have to go out to Frisco and see Wiles one day. He is one that I'm intrigued by.

Same thing here, reading through the plays... Odor tried to bunt into the shift (first base)? Rather than bunting down third base line, which is usually vacant?

gigem1223
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Can't believe they got out of that unscathed
DallasAg 94
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I did see that... I think Odor was trying to bunt it past what he thought would be a charging 1B. Odor pushed the ball pretty hard and the 1B grabbed it and barely got Odor sliding to 1st.

June 1st lineup hope:

Elvis 6
Calhoun 7
Beltre 5
Gallo 9
Guzman 3
Chirinos 2
Mazara DH
Odor 4
Delino 8

Trade Choo & Mazara for any SP we can get then move Robinson to LF & Calhoun to DH. I would be happy with seeing that play out.

Evan Grant basically sums up the Rangers rotation thus far

gigem1223

So you have us trading Mazara and batting him 7th? Not sure which one is more unrealistic.

Rangers sent Leclerc down, when activating Perez. He and Bush were the only options.

They knew Colon could have been gone.

Not terrible.

Drew Robinson has gained me some interest.

The Rupp signing is also interesting.

No one has ever questioned his arm, it's his range that is lacking.

His range? Dude ran the ball down into the bullpen and fielded it cleanly with the backhand. I think this could be the start of something special for him.
