A lot of straw man arguments going up in defense of the Rangers' selfish decision. Not a single one of you really thinks the rangers did the right thing. Not one.

Can you point out the straw man arguments? As I said, I don't think either side was necessarily wrong, but both could have been "more right". There was a hint of self-interest on both sides.

Can we get this back to actual trash talk instead of hyperventilating over something utterly irrelevant given the situation here in Houston? You know, maybe talking about the Rangers outscoring the Astros 20-3 in the first 2 games of the series.

It's really not irrelevant at all, and it's something that will stick in the craw of Houston folks for a long long time, as it should.

Cashner, Brocail and Banister (off top of my head) have ties to Houston. Let's not act like only Astros players are impacted by this. Both sides made offers with strings attached. Both rejected the offer. As I said, neither side was wrong and both sides could have been "more right".

You question the character of one side, but you're hung on scheduling while people are dying and losing everything. This is insane. Schedules are meaningless. I live in Houston and the fact that this is a topic of conversation here blows my mind.

No, it really is irrelevant. The fact that you're this hung up over it while people actually suffer is ridiculous. It's a game. You're hyperventilating over the scheduling of a freaking game.

If the scheduling of a game "sticks in your craw" for a long time, then you need to reevaluate how you view this game. Especially as I just heard a Blackhawk fly overhead looking for people who are trapped.

I'm the funniest guy you've never met. And 7th grade was the hardest class year I ever had until graduate school. A term paper in every class, but the MBA was well worth it. We should have a beer or 10 sometime and get over this sheet.

I agree that the series should've been cancelled/postponed. Our guys don't wanna be playing baseball.

If the Astros were home instead of on the road I think they would've been treated like a rain out. Play them later or wait until the end of the season and see if the need to be played an play them then.

And you're right that both sides dropped the ball. But my beef is those that say splitting the series wouldn't have been a nice gesture and helped us out a great deal. That's wrong.

And furthermore MLB should've stepped in a handled it in a better way. Think they have just as much to blame as Daniels and Ryan.

This I absolutely agree with. IMO, MLB should have stepped in and resolved this before it ever became an issue. I'm not sure why the teams are expected to hammer it out themselves. This should be an MLB decision. Not Rangers. Not Astros.

I would have probably told the league, look we arent going to play right now. If you dont like it, you can fine us, you can make us forfeit the games or whatever you want. We will make them up at the end of the season or some other time but right now my guys are heading home to be with their loved ones.

We dont know all the behind the scenes details but you are right. The league should have stepped in and just said shut it down for a few days. We could have always played a double header and then a single game later if need be.

Like O7 said, this should have been a humanitarion gesture not a business decision. No one is making money on this series being played in Florida. Lets not kid ourselves here.

They could have played this week in arlington. They should have played this week in arlington. To put that all on the rangers truly requires one to be a thoughtless moron.

This should have been about this week -> "what is the best way to get thru it?" All else be damned.

Agree completely. And then played the September series in Houston. Seems pretty simple. And decent. But y'all "won" so be proud. And no Ranger season ticket holders were inconvenienced. Just Astro ones. Congrats.

I am sure Bannister is a good man and means well but he sounds just like the sips after they screwed us for years and then wondered why we were ticked off. His side "won" everything as they got to keep their September home series and did not have to play at Minute Maid at all during their wild card run. And were indignant when the Astros did not take their "kind" offer to give them three more home games than any other MLB team. This is like justification without repentance and acknowledging that your side were turds. So easy, so noble. When you won. No thanks.

Apologize and we will talk. Same standard I hold to the sips.

And it is not "finger pointing" when you point out the truth of what actually happened. Only a blind man could not see it. Now back to my destroyed home town of Beaumont. The "Rangers" are dead to me and as mentioned before, I enjoyed pulling for them when they were good as they were from Texas.

You are taking a game far too seriously. Your hometown is "destroyed" and you're worried about scheduling of a game. Neither side "won" in this. There are many people in the Rangers organization that are from Houston or have ties to Houston. Both franchises made offers motivated by business, and both sides rejected the others offer. I haven't seen anything to indicate the Rangers were "indignant" that the Astros rejected their offer to have all the proceeds from the 3-game series in Arlington. It wasn't the Rangers FO that ran to the media.

But, seriously, the fact that you're this spun up over the scheduling of a game while our cities are underwater is sad. There are far bigger things to deal with right now. This trumped up outrage over the scheduling of a game is silly, especially as rescue choppers still fly around the city. But go ahead and vent I guess. I understand the last 5 days have been very stressful and venting about things like this may be your release.

What seems sip-like is to blow he whole thing up and have your team go to Tampa because you didn't 100% get your way on 3 games a month from now. Oh wait, Reid Ryan IS a sip. Hmmm.

This saga reminds me of a story Mom tells about my Grandfather. Local poor family's house burned down and his church asked the members to help out with what they could. My grandfather took two grocery bags of black eyed peas that my mom and siblings had picked. When he gave them to the matriarch of this unfortunate family she *****ed about how they were going to have to shell them and what they really wanted was money.

Could my family had done more? Of course. Were they obligated to help in any way? No. Was the offer appreciated? Not in the least.

And in retrospect, I am being way too harsh on the longhorns. When Bonfire hit, they offered to do anything, including rescheduling the game. They did not ask how their band honoring the dead at halftime contributed monetarily to any victims, etc. They dropped all pettiness about sports, money, playoffs, etc. They acted liked neighbors and Texans. Sure, it was all symbolic. But it sure seemed to help. My beefs with them were all on business dealings. But they did the "right thing" when it mattered.

Dude, your side won everything so please stop. You do not have to play at the division leaders park and your "magnanimous" offer was to try to get three more home games than any other team in MLB. Be happy. You "won".

To me, it is just somebody doing something fairly obviously wrong for the sake of money, playoffs, "inconvenience to season ticket holders, etc. and fans not only defending the decision but blasting the other side (who has suffered a tragedy) for questioning it.

But it is okay. The good guys win in the end.

Dude you're a *********idiot.

Did the Sips offer their stadium for 3 games, letting A&M be the home team, with all proceeds going towards the relief? Did the Sips then donate $1M to the cause after being publicly spit on by A&M's president? Did the Sips then proceed to donate 10% of all proceeds for the next home series towards the relief?

Where is your disdain towards Reid Ryan? He is the one that made the final decision on where to play. Can you tell me what his reasoning was to play at the Trop instead of Globe Life?

Reid Ryan failed the Astros, their fans, and the victims that could've used the millions that were going to be raised.

Jon Daniels, Reid Ryan and the MLB missed a golden opportunity here.

You do understand that was a scam and a total PR move by the Rangers? MLB decided on the Trop because no way in hell the other teams in the wild card race are going to let the Rangers play three more home games than everybody else. The Astros "declined" nothing. The Rangers knew MLB was never going to let them use a tragedy to scam three extra home games. C''mon man, think. No way MLB would let the Rangers do that. That is not how it works. And I actually know what happened. Which is why I am pissed.

Have no link just what I have heard.

Stop and think, do you really think MLB is going to let the the Rangers get three more home games than all the other teams in the playoff races? Do you really think those teams would just stand by and say nothing? This was a MLB decision behind closed doors. There were never going to be three games at Arlington, The decision came down to a neutral field or switching series. The Rangers floated that idea about hosting for PR reasons only from what I have heard.

A series switch would have been the most "fair" decision imho especially with the tragedy element thrown in. The Rangers refused so the Astros lost three home games. And got a hurricane. Win for the Rangers I guess.

As I've said before, if I were JD, I would have taken the Astros up on their offer and swapped series. That said, if I were Reid Ryan, I would have taken the Rangers up on their offer and played the current series in Arlington as the "home" team and taken all the proceeds as offered.

I understand the reasoning behind the offers of both franchises, and as I said, I don't think either side was inherently "wrong", but both sides could have been "more right". Both sides made offers based on business reasoning. This isn't about "winning" or "losing" though. That's a flawed way to look at this. I don't think the Rangers were trying to get one over on the Astros. I don't think the intent of either side was to screw over the other. Sometimes there's not a clear-cut answer to a situation and compromise is the result, which is where we're at right now.

If I'm going to point a finger anywhere, it's at MLB. This should have never been a decision to be made by the two franchises. MLB should have immediately stepped up and said "this is how it's going to be". MLB has shown an alarming lack of leadership w/ this situation.

$1M donation a scam? Tell that to the victims that need that money.

Even if the MLB made the decision to play at Tampa, Reid Ryan forced their hand after turning down JD. So I'll say it again. Ryan made the decision to play in Tampa. Why?
