Random Comment: MLB shop is horribly slow. Still "processing" the order I put in the moment we won.
I ordered about $250 worth of stuff for me and my kids right after ALCS game 7 ended. Delivery is supposed to be tomorrow....2 weeks later.....

Fortunately we got some gear at the stadium when we went to game 3.

Same. Got the stuff I order the night we won ALCS game 7 on Game 7 of the WS. Expect 2 weeks for anything that says shipping in 2-3 days.

I ordered a shirt the night we won ALCS game 7.... it got submitted, then 5 days later they sent an email saying the shirt was out of stock and my order was cancelled, and the hat I ordered the same night came in on monday.

Then I ordered it the shirt from Academy and I received it two days later.

What if, 12 days ago, you were told that in the World Series:

- Neither Keuchel or Verlander would win a game
- Giles would blow two saves
- Altuve would hit under .200

What odds would you give that there would be a parade in Houston today?

Good points. Verlander got the Astros thru the ALDS and ALCS no doubt. But in the world series it was the other guys...Morton, LMj, Peacock...that pushed the team across the finish line

AJ Hinch took the #WorldSeries trophy home last night. "Driving around the city with the trophy is pretty cool."

Luhnow gives credit to trainers, strength & conditioning & doctors for playing a huge part. "Had 7 or 8 guys operating on fumes at the end"

AJ Hinch said the Astros "will decide in time" if they would accept an invitation to White House. Doesn't want politics in the celebration.

Luhnow on the championship dogpile "Never knew our relievers could run so fast..."

Luhnow gave credit to former GMs Ed Wade and Tim Purpura for acquiring talent that was here before his tenure

AJ Hinch on beating the Dodgers: "The strategy to beat them was to outlast them."

Any idea where I can watch a live stream online for the Astros' parade today?

I would think any of the Houston television station websites. KTRK, KPRC, KHOU, etc.

Jose Altuve who conquered being tiny

Didn't conquer it, he's still tiny but it didn't make a damn bit of difference. He just kicks ass.

Probably not the best choice of words, but it seems like Hinch didn't want to talk politics on a day of celebration.

IF we decide to not go...
By not going to the whitehouse we are now "making it a political" issue. No matter what sport wins a title or your political affiliation...you go to the White House shake the presidents hand give him a jersey with his name on it, take a picture and go home. Period end of story. There is nothing political about it and you don't have to agree with the presidents policies to go.

It's not even a conversation that should be occurring. And for the record hinch handled that question correctly

Yep ... didn't take the bait. Of course the media continues to ask each player the same question.

McCullers: It's the White House. It's hard to say you're not gonna go see the [White House] .. I'd be crazy not to want to go see that first hand.

Springer: If the team goes, I'm going.

It will be really interesting to see what Correa and Beltran do. They're both Puerto Ricans and have family over there, so they have at worst second hand knowledge of what went down over there after Maria hit as it pertains to Trump and the negative press he received.
I think they should go. Not because they support Trump, but because it is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I would have said the same thing if Obama was still in office.

I sort of get this sentiment, but I also see the reporters' side of this in that the Astros probably won't have another media availability any time soon. So they basically have to ask, even if they also probably don't want to ruin the mood of the day by asking.

Or they could just report on what happens after it happens

Like a reporter would do

Totally agree. They should report the news. Not try to generate it.

No reporter would "wait and see what happens" when you can ask them. That's like saying reporters shouldn't ask who the starting pitchers are going to be.

I do, however, think I would go even if I had an issue with the current administration. Just, hypothetically, let's say that Carlos Beltran has an issue with how Trump has handled Puerto Rico, he could set up interviews and release a statement the day the team visits the White House and I think it would provide a much bigger platform than simply not going.

or he can ask for a meeting with Trump to discuss ways to help Puerto Rico

Yeah, I'd even put that in my statement to the press. "I hope to have an opportunity to talk with the President, if just for a few minutes, about ways to help my native country and..."

My point is I think they should go even if they don't like the administration because it would give them the chance for a wider audience on why they have disagreements with them.

Just not going isn't helping anyone.

I disagree with this statement.

I don't believe it was appropriate for the reporter to ask the question at this point in time. After the parade and celebration is over -- fine. AJ kicked the can down the street, and that was an appropriate response.

As far as the reporter generating news, it's not generating news. It would be an enterprise story. Reporters do that all the time. Reporters need to ask the questions people are thinking and sometimes that gets a story. Journalism isn't just reporting what happens -- it's finding what people are concerned about and getting them answers.

I'll get off my soapbox now. I didn't want to derail the thread.

If reporters would stick to that, and just always ask what they think people want to know, I wouldn't complain. Where it gets annoying is that many reporters let their personal politics get involved and they will not ask or pursue the questions that they know people want to know the answer to but they believe are not good for their political causes.
