I sort of get this sentiment, but I also see the reporters' side of this in that the Astros probably won't have another media availability any time soon. So they basically have to ask, even if they also probably don't want to ruin the mood of the day by asking.

I disagree with this statement.
I don't believe it was appropriate for the reporter to ask the question at this point in time. After the parade and celebration is over -- fine. AJ kicked the can down the street, and that was an appropriate response.
As far as the reporter generating news, it's not generating news. It would be an enterprise story. Reporters do that all the time. Reporters need to ask the questions people are thinking and sometimes that gets a story. Journalism isn't just reporting what happens -- it's finding what people are concerned about and getting them answers.
I'll get off my soapbox now. I didn't want to derail the thread.
