another great thing about this world series run...it's coming at the beginning or first half of the careers of the Astros star players.

whereas with Biggio and Bagwell the WS trip was at the very end. And we all knew that the team would have to find new stars very soon

I'll add that the Astros back then suffered from "Just glad to be here-itis". Bidge and Bags strived for it their whole career. Don't think that's going to happen with these young guys.

This one is special. I want to thank everyone for this wonderful thread. It made a fun season better. I have watched the Astros since 1968. I was an Astro buddy. My Astro buddy was Joe Morgan the first time he was with the team. So many memories flooding over me. I wish my mom and dad were here for this. They loved this city and the Astros.

And once again...That daunted Yankee BP didn't phase us at all.

Joe Buck was slobbing all over the knob of that BP saying that CC only had to get it to 4 or 5 and hand it over to their studs arms.

Well he only got it to 3.1 and it got worse once those studs came in.

Not only was the Yankee BP not a factor, they arguably were not good.

Chapman only pitched in Gm1 and 4, ended with an ERA of 6.75 and a WHIP of 1.5.

Betances went in Gm 2 and 6 recording 1.0 IP total, an ERA of 9.0 and WHIP of 3.0 and nobody killed.

Robertson was equally bad as was Kahnle.

Their SP was mostly rock solid and their BP not so much. Of course you could say the same for us. Starting pitching including the tandem start last night really won it. The BP in general was not good.

I got the same hat and a fly the pennant shirt in gray.

Little nervous about the hat, never had a flat bill style that I liked but I'm already workin on this one.

I just discovered this thread. Started reading about 3 weeks ago and feel like I have shared these playoffs with you. I have lived in Ranger country, my kids are actually huge fans of them, but I grew up in Houston and have been a lifelong Astros fan. I saw my first MLB game with my little league teammates in 1963, Colt .45s vs. SF Giants. I got to go to several games in 1965 when they became the Astros and moved into the dome. Remember the parking lot attendants wearing astronaut costumes. Once I turned 12, I was allowed to catch a bus and ride to the dome to games with a group of neighborhood buddies without any parents or chaperones. Imagine that today. The bus was $0.35 and an outfield mezzanine ticket was $1. Funding came mostly from picking up coke bottles and returning them for deposits.

My Astros buddy was Jimmie Wynn. I was a center field regular and he threw me more than a few balls over the years. He is still one of my all time favorites. I went to sleep many nights listening to the games on the west coast, Dodgers and Giants on a crystal radio when I was supposed to be sleeping. Needless to say, I am Beyond excited with this season and really hope they can pull out the series.

I will be keeping up with this forum while I am watching. Thanks for sharing the excitement about our team.

Just went to Dicks to try some of them on to make sure I had the right size. Never had a flat bill either, but I figure one with the WS patch is the right time to start. They were completely sold out of the WS patch versions. Place was insane.

Makes me a little sad because I felt like the only one wearing the gear the last several years (especially when we were losing 100) and now I can't even buy anything because everyone wants to wear it now. Happy to see the city wake up and support this team the way they should, though.

/rant.

Hope MLB shop doesn't take forever to ship this stuff out.

Took 2 weeks to get my Houston Strong shirts. They sold it as "only available online" saw the mother ****ers in academy 2 days after I ordered it
