It's been real y'all. I haven't been as active since I started grad school but I've loved following this thread all season. Looking forward to spring training already.

Then again, I would probably rather get swept than lose in game 5, if we were gonna lose

We actually led twice (1-0), but yeah, just a ****ty series.

I don't think you can say we were barely competitive. This first game yes but game 2 & 3 were hard fought games. Just didn't shake out well.

In retrospect, that Beltran trade wasn't really worth it. He had a couple moments, but overall the return wasn't great. Additionally, I don't know what more Matt Bush can show to demonstrate he should be the closer next year.

I'm not sure how you can look at that last play and pick Mitch Moreland as the culprit.

It was a bad feed and a bad throw. If the SS and 2B execute, we're still playing baseball tonight.

If Lucroy doesn't have a passed ball, we're still playing baseball tomorrow.

I am probably on the board of directors for the Mitch Moreland Hate Fan Club, but that ain't on him.
It's called confirmation bias. THey want to blame mitch, dont actualy know **** about baseball, and then you get their **** posts that have filled the last 2 pages.

Actually I know quite a bit, but I'll refrain from getting into a pissing match. It was a bad play all around, from Elvis, especially Odor, and a ball that looked to me, from the other camera angle, that Moreland SHOULD have picked it. Moved a step to his right and had the ball right in his glove.

I don't know. Sucks to have it end that way though

How some of you can try to blame Mitch on the last okay is beyond me. Yea, it hit his glove, but he was 5 feet off the bag just trying to save the throw. He made a great play just stopping it from going to the dugout. Give me a ****ing break. The play was on Elvis and odor.

I feel bad for Elvis bc he was good this series and I wish he didn't have to deal with this **** again this offseason.

Also, Elvis' throw was low, but it wasnt an error. Odor either needs to just make the play, or hold the ball.

I'm pretty sure I saw it posted in this thread, but I like the idea of moving Odor to OF and Profar to 2nd. Odor has really done nothing to prove he deserves that spot defensively. Would also be a way to keep Profar involved daily, maybe bring back Gomez cheap, Choo when he is healthy, and figure out if they want to re-sign opposite of clutch Desmond or not.

Think I'd like to move Profar and Gallo for an SP.

Morelnd took a single step off e bag and he had his glove and throwing hand in a position to make a clean fielding of the ball and he bungled it. If a first baseman can get two hands there you expect him to be able to make a scoop, especially when it is on his glove hand side. This wasn't making a diving stop or some sort of wicked back hand stab.

Elvis' throw was bad; and so was Odor's throw. Perhaps he shouldn't have thrown it at all. Moreland didn't make a clean scoop of a "scoopable" ball.

All 3 played look to have played a role, in my view.

Not a bad year for the good guys. Every year I like to make a list of memorable moments/stories:

  • The guy knocking a homer to win free season tix
  • Winning on Opening Day despite having one hit
  • The Roogie punch/brawl was still awesome - hopefully we get another chance to get the better of the Jays in the future.
  • The Ken Giles "we're gonna put em in the ground" rant, after which the Rangers promptly took 13 of 16 from Houston or something like that.
  • Matt Bush getting his life together and being the bullpen MVP
  • The 2am win in the Bronx after Banny threatened to rain down holy hell if they didn't finish
  • MAZ having a breakout rookie campaign when he wasn't expected to be here until September - including the 494 foot bomb
  • Colby, of all people, taking a perfecto into the 9th at Oakland
  • Profar finally getting a chance to play injury free - good for him
  • 33 bombs from Roogie - excited for his Rangers career
  • Playing a series at Wrigley - although we lost the series.
  • Cole and Yu having great (regular ) seasons.
  • Mitch Moreland hitting three (I think?) go-ahead/walkoff homeruns vs. KC in one week
  • Beltre's two-out, down a run, walkoff homer against Oakland to get us back on track in August.
  • Nick Martinez behind the back snag + Scioscia-face
  • Treading water in July with guys like Chi-Chi, Nick Martinez, Cesar Ramos, and Lucas Harrell (and Michael Roth for a start) in the rotation
  • Winning the division by such a wide margin

Feel free to add to the list. I'm sure there's plenty I'm not thinking of.

Great season, bad playoffs.

This was a fun team to watch and cheer for all year. Not sure what happened to our starters and vets this week.

Good to see Bush deal some there at the end.

Very tough way to go out

I thought the Diek move reeked of Wash "my guy" mentality. Diekman has been absolute crap the last few weeks. Radio guys commented after game 1, that the only good thing about blowout was putting Diek in the game during a low pressure situation to see how he was. 4 hits, 3 runs, plus a walk and homer in that one inning and Banny still went back to him? JJ was on, I would of let him pitch to Saunders

I didn't get to post as much as past seasons this year, but it was still a great season of fun! The end sucked, for sure, but I loved watching this team play, and I'm looking forward to 2017! Around 130 days until pitchers and catchers report!

It's going to be very interesting to see what the rangers do with the impending free agents. Beltran, Desmond, Gomez, and I think Lewis are all unrestricted free agents.

Beltran is a decent option if they have plans to weather the down SP market this season or have some other future targets.

Otherwise I think they may be able to get a little more bang for their buck going for a younger guy on a longer contract.

Desmond obviously had a good season but he showed he's still a streaky guy and you have to be careful not get into a bidding war and overspending on him.

Gomez, meh. He's a career .257 hitter without much power and he strikes out and all of that.

I think with all 3 of these guys, you've got to trust your scouting department and not get too biased towards resigning them just because you saw them every day and have a relationship with them.

Does Moreland get anything more than a one-year deal this offseason? He's 31 and was in the bottom third of all 1B in WAR and OPS this year. Almost every team has a better option at 1B.

The silver lining to those soon-to-be FAs struggling down the stretch is that you may get a bargain price to resign them. Desmond won't command anywhere near the salary it was looking like he'd get back in June. GoGo should be dirt cheap and I wouldn't be opposed to signing him for a year and seeing what you can get out of him. Beltran is meh. I really wish Gallo had shown ANYTHING this season to make us believe he could take over at 1B next year so we could let Mitch walk. Doubt JD is willing to make that gamble now though, so maybe give Mitch another year.

Agreed. If anything, Gallo showed that he's a long ways away from being productive. He needs to change his swing big time. I'm not sure if he even has that poor of a plate approach, it just seems like he cannot physically make consistent contact, hence the ridiculous strikeout numbers. At this point, I wouldn't be too upset if he went for a pitcher. I want to keep Profar though, but you have to find somewhere for him to get more playing time.

The most interesting decision will be at DH. If you could get Beltran for relatively cheap, I would think that would make some sense. I wonder if they would consider moving Choo to a more permanent DH position and using Mazara most of the time in RF. As far as the impending LF/CF holes, I would be fine with either Desmond or Gomez back for the right price. Gomez isn't great, but he played good defense, and had some moments at the plate.
