Did you emphasize the "Beer" portion of that 'B' trifecta tonight...?

Just wait until you find out my dad's career choice; you'll really be disappointed in me.

Somebody tell me how we won that game. Our starter went only four innings while performing a couple of Houdini acts, our bullpen had to throw five innings to the best offense in the league at FENWAY, all high leverage innings, and David Price K'd ten of our batters.

Did that Texags gets a suite thing ever happened? What a night that would be...I'd show up and be entertained without even watching the game.

I home office, so it isn't like I can stop to get beer on the way home, or hit the pub... so I usually don't drink often.

Baseball and Bewbs are always in the house.

For those that missed it...

Yohander Mendez (21-LHP) got a spot start for AAA, tonight, with Roth, Chi Chi and Martinez having been called up.

5.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 7 SO

13th Ranked prospect who would likely be on the board of any trade conversations.

Scouting grades: Fastball: 50 | Curveball: 45 | Changeup: 60 | Control: 55 | Overall: 50

The Rangers weren't shy about spending on international talent in 2011. They gave Cuban defector Leonys Martin a $15.6 million big league contract and spent another $12.8 million on amateur bonuses, headlined by $4.95 million for Nomar Mazara and $3.45 million for Ronald Guzman. Their biggest pitching expenditure was $1.5 million to sign Mendez out of Venezuela.

Five years later, Mendez still is more about projection than present stuff, but he's intriguing as a 6-foot-5 lefty who could develop into a mid-rotation starter if he can get stronger and stay healthy. He throws his fading, sinking changeup with deceptive arm speed, and it's a legitimate plus pitch that keeps right-handers at bay. Mendez usually works at 88-90 mph and tops out at 93 with his fastball, and there's still projection remaining in his lanky frame.

Unlike a lot of long-limbed youngsters, Mendez has no problems throwing strikes. His biggest needs are to refine his slurvy breaking ball and to prove he can handle a starter's workload. Mendez strained his elbow shortly after signing and had more issues with it in 2014, so Texas has handled him carefully and he has yet to top 66 1/3 innings in any of his first four pro seasons.

Minor league teams change affiliation all the time. Houston would take over the rights to the RR Express and move their AAA players there. Texas would potentially start a new AAA club in SA after the Missions relocate to Amarillo and send our AAA players to SA.

In my lifetime the Missions have been the AA affiliate of the Dodgers, Mariners and currently the Padres

Do it for an Astros/Rangers series. Half Astros fans. Half Rangers. Lock the EXIT door. The only food served: Whipped cream pies.

Here is a history of the Rangers' affiliates, over the years.

I thought they had Midland, at one point, but I'm guessing my familiarity with them, was based on the Rangers' teams playing them. Tulsa Drillers, maybe?

In recent years, it has been fascinating.

Oklahoma City, Tulsa and Port Charlotte were always the teams I associated with the Rangers.

2002/2003 was the start of frequent changes, led in many ways by owners.
-----------

Some of the following is pieced together, and may include some errors, but taken from a number of sources (including my aging memory).

In 2002, Hicks bought the AA team in Shreveport (Texas League affiliate, along with Tulsa), moved them to Frisco and changed the Rangers' affiliation from Tulsa to Frisco. AFAIK, Greenberg now owns Frisco.

In 2006, Greenberg bought Myrtle Beach and in 2010 was part of the group to buy the Texas Rangers. In 2010, Myrtle Beach became the A affiliate of Texas. When Greenberg was kicked out of the Texas Rangers, I think part of getting rid of him, was ownership of the Frisco team.

AAA moved from Oklahoma City to Round Rock because Nolan had ownership in both. Now that he has left the Rangers, it has always been expected Round Rock will go back to Houston.

Article is interesting, in that the guy who owns both San Antonio (AA) and Colorado Springs (AAA) is looking to Colorado Springs to San Antonio (making it AAA), and then San Antonio to Amarillo (giving them a AA team). I'm not sure if Amarillo is new to the game, or have had a team. I'm also not sure if Colorado Springs will now not have a team.

Also of note, regarding A+ ball. I'm not sure what facilitated moving from Port Charlotte, to Stockton, but I remember reading (from Scott Lucas, maybe) that the Rangers were late to negotiate with Stockton, or they were fiddling around with renewal, and the team affiliated with Bakersfield came in and signed an agreement.

That left the Rangers being the last team without an A+ affiliate and Bakersfield as the only option. Bakersfield had always (and continues) to be a struggle between team/owner/city. They were always supposed to get upgrades and remained one of the worst places. With Greenberg owning both Myrtle Beach and the Rangers, the Rangers moved to Myrtle Beach. I'm not sure if Greenberg still owns them, but without him being tied to the Rangers, the Rangers got out witted and lost affiliation. This left the Rangers again with having the only option of High Desert. While Bakersfield is one of the worst places, High Desert is generally accepted as THE worst place. The Rangers have tried to purchase teams in the Charlotte/Florida area, where many teams own the franchise, but no luck.

The City of Bakersfield has all but told the affiliate there to F-Off and this season attendance is down like 20%+. The Rangers are desperate to find another option. So, I've been following that drama. Keep an eye on that.

I've wanted to own a minor league team, but the prices have gone from hundreds-of-thousands, 20 years ago... to tens-of-millions. Worth looking at...

So when this happens they move all their players, staff, equipment, etc? It just seems like a logistical @sswhipping.

How so?

Baseball seems relatively portable, in terms of equipment. It used to be many teams had an agreement with local Apartments. When we lived in an apartment in Arlington, a minor league hockey team had lease agreements for the players. I don't know if they were furnished or not, but keep in mind, players in baseball can bunk 2-3 per apartment and move frequently up and down. So, players seems like no big deal.

Staff... I can see that, but wonder how seasonal and transient such workers are. I assume there are catering agreements that stay with the facility.

To me, this is where talks of the Rangers moving from Arlington, really have teeth. Colorado Springs now loses an entertainment source, as will likely Bakersfield. Team leaves, they can't take stadium with them, so teams don't want to build stadiums knowing they may have to leave.

I see your point, it's just a weird concept that all of a sudden a whole team moves and is now a different team.

I guess not that weird considering franchises that move, but still, lol.

I think the difference is we don't really see MLB, NFL and NBA teams as franchises, we see them as a part of the city. I have visions of the Colts loading up 18-Wheelers and whole organizations being upheavaled.

For these baseball minor league teams... I think the teams have become more transient and thus portable. It wouldn't surprise me if Round Rock kept most of the operational staff during team exchanges. I don't know, though.
