Let Wemby shoot nothing but 3s and go for the Stilt's record

It was Podziemski that did a leg sweep of Wemby last time. Think Sochan should get some time tomorrow night for a quick ejection on that little b*tch

Bronnie dove at guys legs over loose balls three times in the fourth.

Glad this one ended before LeNepoBaby could hurt anyone in garbage time.

No BeefStew when we play them after the ASB. Duren misses Raptors and Knicks games, but will be back for us.

That sucks. Wanted him to work out.

Time to troll the buyout market

How do buyouts work in relation to salary cap and who we can possibly add this year?

Sochan had 4+ years to develop even the semblance of an outside shot and couldn't do it. Just doesn't work in today's NBA.

That said, someone will roll the dice on him for cheap (by NBA standards).

Just in time for Baylor to sign him going into March Madness.

I loved Sochan in that draft. He's an elite defender and a high IQ offensive player. The problem for him is now we have Castle and Bryant who are just as good on defense but can also score way better. He was never going to see the floor. I bet some team can use him.

So many questions with Sochan:
Did the point guard experiment stunt his development?

His shot mechanics were terrible, then he tried that one-handed stuff, then went back - never changed never improved. Did he refuse to remake his shot or not directed to? Maybe more a mental thing for him?

He was irritating and grating to opposing players, was he the same on the practice floor? Was he liked in the locker room? Maybe the team didn't like him always starting stuff?

He didn't lack effort and seemed to do as coaches wanted. I guess it could really just be he was passed up on the depth chart.

If he gets claimed off waivers (next 48 hours) then we are clear. If not his full salary sticks against the cap but we can stretch it over more years I think up to (2x+1) the years left on the contracts.

I think he just got passed up as other guys fit better into the mold of what the spurs want to do around Wemby.

Having sat next to the Spurs bench in New Orleans- (Dec 8).

I think Sochan was a good team guy. He seemed to celebrate the good on the floor. But seemed more of a spectator and not super engaged.

Pregame when the team was shooting threes, he was far and away the worst guy shooting. Like Byombo hit more than he did.

I do think he was doomed by the PG experiment. He just needed someone to fix his mechanics and stand in thr corner and shoot 500 threes a day.

Carter's recent play and shooting has rendered him expendable. I suspect they bring in another big who can shoot to take that last spot.

I don't know if the salary had worked out, but I wish we had kept Mamu. Always liked him, good size, decent shooter for a big and still young. Could have hid him easier next to Wemby and Kornet and the rest of our defenders now.

I just can't get on board with that. He played an entire year before that.

Then he played like a dozen games as point.

Then he played over a hundred games after that.

Jeremy has played over 200 games in the NBA and he is the same player he was at Baylor. He hasn't developed a bit, despite really great coaches that have developed multiple other players into winning basketball players over the same period of time.

Jeremy can be useful as an energy defensive guy for someone, but he has to have offensive skills beyond being an above average screener. He didn't show improvement or consistent improvement anywhere.

He had ~200 games of playing as himself and ~dozen games playing as point Sochan. If that dozen games or so stunted him so much that he could never grow as a player, he was never going to grow anyway and he is way too mentally fragile to be a contributing player to a contending team.

Yeah, the PG experiment was a failure, but he had lots of time to get over it.

Unless he took less money, his entire salary counts against our cap. We could also stretch him (like what Milwaukee did with Dame), but that isn't going to happen.

Then if we have a free agent on the market we want to sign, their new contract will count against the cap. We could theoretically sign someone for two years starting at about 5.1M with the BAE. But more than likely, we just sign a player for the veteran minimum.

Players currently on the buyout market:

Georges Niang - PF. The Minivan. Fat dude that can hit threes and not play defense. Career 40% shooter from three. Doesn't rebound or play defense. Basically the New England version of Barnes with less talent. He hasn't played this year after a foot fracture in training camp.

Haywood Highsmith - D&3 wing. He was cleared for 5-on-5 when he was waived. Has not played this year after a tear in his meniscus. Mostly a SF and undersized PF. Shot 39% over the last two years with Miami.

Chris Boucher - Undersized PF from Toronto. Seemed to always up his game against us. Couldn't break into Boston's rotation this year. Meh.

Rumored buyout candidates:

Matisse Thybulle
Kyle Anderson

Lol Bucks win and Hawks lose, we need Cam Thomas to somehow lead the Bucks over the next few weeks until Giannis comes back so they can overtake the Hawks and bury them solidly in the lottery. I have no confidence in the Bulls trying to win the rest of the year.

Sad news on the Sochan era being over, if he could just shoot corner 3s he could easily play Barnes' offensive role while also being way more valuable defensively. But alas that just never happened. The biggest win here is that Spurs didn't get itchy on the extension trigger and give him a 4/60 deal or something stupid that would have totally gunked up our books.

I'm starting to think that for all non Harper, Castle and Wemby guys we should just always plan on going to restricted free agency. Make a guy prove it for 4 years AND let the open market help determine a player's value before you overpay on an extension.

This (and others ITT) is a very fair and reasonable critique/summary. I've felt all along point Sochan was just an attempt to get him to level up at something. At this point he's basically the same guy he was when he was drafted...if you don't level up on your rookie deal, it's not likely you'll stick around anywhere. Wish I'd saved it or shared it but there was a neat write-up showing there's a LOT of dudes the last few years who didnt get the QO at the end of their rookie deal. It's not just because Brian Wright is butt and can't draft. It's a league-wide deal.

Also in the evolution of Keldon from empty numbers on a bad team to uncertain future last year, this year I'm convinced he's the engine behind most of why our record is so good this year. He consistently plays hard as hell and makes all kinds of winning plays.

This game was kind of floating out of reach and Keldon totally flipped the script in 60 seconds bullying his way down low and scoring 7 quick points. He plays with passion and he's our one guy that can't be knocked off his spot. He's grown man strong and when we start playing playoff basketball I think he's going to be the guy helps us match the physicality we're going to face.

Wasn't the biggest KJ fan in the past for reasons you mentioned. But now find myself trying to compare him to someone from the dynasty years. He's been the glue and motor for several big wins this year.
