Wemby looks awesome in warmups.

Gonna wreck the Lakers. (If he comes back for that one)

Sorry I just saw this. We are a few rows behind the spurs bench.

We somehow ended up next to the bench. Baseline sitting next to the trainers.

My son has a new favorite player - Julian pulled him out onto the court pregame and let him shoot with the team.

Good stuff!

Pop is on his way to NO to whoop Mitch Johnson's ass for this defensive showing

Mitch has to change things up during halftime. These 3rd quarters are killing us.

The things that came out of Sweeneys mouth during this last timeout had my son asking a lot of questions.

What the heck does Mitch tell this team at halftime for them to not show up in the third?

This season, Spurs seem to play great in the first half with a lead then don't bother to show up in the third. Time and time it happens.

44-16 against Cleveland, 45-23 tonight. Ridiculous.

They came out so flat. You could feel the energy difference in warmups. Third wasn't a surprise.

Pelicans scored on 21 of 26 possessions in the 3rd.

Spurs couldn't handle the zone. Awful effort on defense. Scott Foster being Scott Foster. Fox is a bum.

Derik Queen showing out today just for guitar soup

The trade to get him was horrible, but I think he's already shown enough to prove me right that he's going to be a productive offensive player in this league.

Interesting we didn't put in Sochan or Castle in the game in the last defensive possession.

I never said he wouldn't be a productive offensive player.

I said he was not the right fit for the Spurs on either end of the court. I stand by that.

He's shooting ALMOST 12% from three for the season and we need 3pt shooting.

He is best as a hub, and for a rookie, he is very good at that. But if you use him like that, you are taking the ball out of Wemby, Fox, Harper, and Castle's hands. That's poor fit for our team and our strengths. Taking the ball out of the hands of Fears, Murphy, Herb, and Bey makes a lot more sense. I think building a team around him and Fears with Murphy and Herb working off ball makes a lot of sense if you can find a rim protector that can space the floor like Myles Turner.

On defense though.... with 9 seconds left Queen just watched Harper drive the paint and lay it in while he sat in the restricted area and didn't move a muscle for what was the go ahead bucket. Then he front rimmed the open shot and fouled Fox for the Spurs to ice the game.

He has a lot of offensive talent and he is a lot further in development than most expected, but I don't think he will ever have what the Spurs want/need on defense and I don't think he fits this team at all. He may have a higher ceiling (offensively) than Bryant, but it is hard to say that Bryant isn't a better fit for the Spurs.

Queen is a modern day Big Baby. He will be a beast in that energy big bowling ball role. But spurs dont need that they need someone who can stroke a three

I know it's a cliche comparison, but we have not had someone with the ability to get to the rim at will like that since Manu. Castle isn't far behind him in that regard either. Their assist numbers are gonna be nuts if Champagnie/Barnes/Vassell continue to fill it up

Queen is good. No doubt. But he doesn't fit the profile of what the Spurs have been looking for. It doesn't matter if fans like him. I personally think he'd be a fun player to root for but I understand what this organization is trying to build.

He's going to be lonely out there by himself since the game is tomorrow

Back to the Spurs:

The way Harper just takes the contact from a really strong player like Saddiq Bey, forces his way in and finishes with the off hand is absolutely special. This is with the game on the line.

This little spin counter:

Bill's a massive fan.

This clip has a bunch of his drives from recent games. The ones where he just goes right at Rudy Gobert just shows you the type of strength, ability and confidence he has.

I was looking for a particular one last night and couldn't find it. But late in the game last night, Harper got the ball in the corner with Herb Jones on him. Dylan just drives baseline, Queen gives help and Harper gets the lay up in over both Queen and Herb and does it with his left hand. Murphy rotated and fronted Kornet so that easy dump off wasn't there. Just amazing he is going to just take it right at and through one of the best individual defenders in the league and finish with his off hand like that.

Amazing how the hardest-working people always are also the luckiest? Fancy that.

Yes, the Spurs front office had nothing to do with getting Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle or Dylan Harper. That was Ping-Pong-ball justice. But San Antonio also has positioned itself in the post-Tim Duncan era to take lots and lots of bites at the lottery apple by continuing to be smart under Wright, who works hand in glove with CEO of Spurs Sports and Entertainment R.C. Buford, amid what looks like a relatively seamless transition from Hall of Fame coach Gregg Popovich to Johnson.

The Spurs got in optimal position to win the 2023 lottery and Wemby by bottoming out in 2022, moving Dejounte Murray to the Hawks for three first-round picks. And that deal got San Antonio Arizona wing Carter Bryant in the '25 draft, on top of picking Harper second overall, with a 2026 pick swap with the Hawks and an unprotected 2027 first-rounder from the Murray deal yet to come.

And having that unprotected 2027 first coming from Atlanta allowed the Spurs the freedom to trade their own '27 first to Sacramento to get De'Aaron Fox from the Sacramento Kings.

And, San Antonio has gotten significant production from Harrison Barnes, who's shot 43 percent from 3 since coming to the Spurs, as part of the multi-team deal in July 2024 that sent DeMar DeRozan from the Chicago Bulls to the Kings, as well as an unprotected 2031 pick swap with Sacramento. For this, San Antonio gave up … nothing, really. The Spurs created enough cap space to take in Barnes' contract by trading the eighth pick in the '24 draft to the Wolves for even more assets: a first-round pick swap with Minnesota in 2030 and the Wolves' unprotected 2031 first, which they could do because they already had Fox and Castle and didn't need Rob Dillingham, whom Minnesota hoped would be its point guard of the future.

So, yes, having absurd lottery luck isn't an example of great team building. But that's only part of why San Antonio has been able to construct an emerging power in the West, one that projects to be a long-term challenger to Oklahoma City for years to come.

"They have been fortunate in their risk propositions, which have paid off in the draft lottery (Wemby, Castle, Harper) and opportunistic in asset collection," one executive said. Aldridge

Lebron is dropping his coverage of Julian and Keldon every possession and they are 5-6 for three.
