Yea. I think interviews are important Especially for the Spurs. Apparently Ace Bailey's interviews were absolutely terrible at the combine.

I don't know if I posted it here but he was criticized for his shot selection, and he pushed back on that and said that it may be a bad shot for you. But it's a good shot for him because he practices it so much.

Most recent espn mock has us taking Carter Bryant at 14. Also on the A&M front, has Mackenzie Mgbako going 58 to the Cavs.

I'm so torn between him and Fleming. I think he has the higher ceiling and I think he could be a better defensive version of Trey Murphy who I love. But Fleming has a more rare archetype and is bigger. I also think Fleming can play small ball center which is a huge bonus.

If we get either him or Fleming I'll be ecstatic

My Spurs offseason rankings of things I have enjoyed:

#1 getting the 2nd pick
#2 that quote from Bailey

I wish I could see one of those youtube reaction videos. Play back that interview split screen and watch PATFO's reaction, I can live on that for weeks.

It is rather comical if you look at enough Mock Drafts to see that there are some that just pull stuff out of their azz. I saw one that had Harper taken as the 8th pick.. One had Bryant going to us at 14 and another had him lasting until the 25th pick. I just looked at one that had Danny Wolf taken at 37. Those are just a few examples.

It just goes to show that you have to be careful where your info comes from. It's obvious that some don't know their stuff or make their lists with lots of bias.

I read Carter Bryant did not participate in any of the 5 on 5 scrimmages at the combine. He did all the measurements and the shooting/speed drills, but didn't do the 5 on 5.

The article didn't give a reason for him not doing the scrimmages. If he did well in the 5 on 5, that would have really vaulted him and he would likely go top 10. But I suspect he didn't want to hurt his draft stock possibly but I don't know.

I'd be ok with us drafting Carter Bryant. He has a good highlight tape and has the length and quickness to be a good defender. I'd take Fleming over him because he is more of a true 4 that can shoot the 3. Fleming is more proven and has such a great shot for a big. And I just don't fully trust a player that averaged 6.5 ppg at Arizona plus he didn't do the 5 on 5 at the combine.

IMO the spurs need shooters, like Fleming. But we need size and if we Steven Adams or Kornet I'm ok with that. I'd like to get even one more big like Sorber or Maluach. We were horrible on defense when Wemby was out.

I go back and forth with Bryant and Fleming. I am leaning Fleming just because of his unique size/skillet.

His body is essentially Naz Reid with less fat and longer wingspan. That's what we need. And I think he could play along side Sochan or Castle at SF depending on matchups.

Wemby - Fleming - Sochan - Harper - Fox
Adams - Barnes - Julian/Keldon - Devin - Castle

I'm there. We have size advantages in both lineups. And that doesn't even include our BAE guy.

Last year the injury bug hit us and we were searching the waiver wire for a starting center. In 2024/25 Steven Adams didn't play in every game, like every other game or something, because he was recovering from knee surgery in 2023. He has had toe injuries, calf strains, fractured fingers etc.. So at Memphis in 23/24 he missed most of the season due to knee surgery, then at Houston last year he played every other game due to rehab, and he had several ailments that kept him out occasionally. He's never been healthy throughout an entire season and has missed games each season. And at New Orleans three seasons ago he had occasional injuries.

Adams is a bruiser, and we need that physical presence. But with that comes injuries. I like him, but I think we need more depth. A young 5 or a young big 4 would help a lot. I would take Adams, but I would want another big.

I wouldn't expect to sign somebody that is a solid contributor on a playoff caliber team with the BAE. Unless we get lucky.

I think Yabusale could be had with the BAE.

Sub Adams for Kornet. Adams is dependent on his medicals, obviously. I like Kevon Looney next, even though he is smaller. Then Capela and Brook Lopez.

The more I look at our needs and what's available via free agency, the more I'm against us using 14 to draft a big. If we keep the pick, we need to try and get a wing that can project as versatile 3 & D guy down the line.

We're very clearly turning the corner from rebuilding to trying to contend. While you always want to have young assets that can contribute and potentially be used in a bigger trade, you also have to add some veterans that have been through the gauntlet. I know injuries derailed our season this year, but I think CP3 and Barnes were huge influences on our young guys. As we make that next step toward pushing into the playoffs, it would be nice to have a few guys that have been there and done it to go along with our young promising core.

Our two biggest needs are a 3 & D wing and a better back up center to improve our rebounding and rim protection when Wemby is off. There aren't very many attainable vets that fit the first description, because every team in the league is looking for those guys. Big, switchable defenders that can shoot at a high enough clip that you have to know where they're at are very rare. Solid rebounding, defensive minded centers are much easier to come by. Brook Lopez, Luke Kornet, Steven Adams, Clint Capella are all potentially available to us in free agency, and all have playoff experience and fit what we need.

Bryant, Fleming, Coward, and any of the other guys that potentially fit that 3 & D mold are far from sure things and may not be ready to really contribute right away, but their archetype is much more difficult to find than Maluach or Sorber.

If Johni Broome is available in the 2nd round, I think that would be a great pick. Alot of people are ragging on him because of his vertical but you really can't argue with his production in the SEC. He's a below the rim player that is pretty good at everything except 3 pt shooting. I think he will be a career backup but with his experience, he could contribute day 1. He has great fundamentals and high basketball IQ.

I would rather have Raynaud but it's looking more and more like he will be gone.

I agree on Kornet over Adams. He had a hamstring issue last year, but those usually heal up especially over the summer. Nothing like Adams injury history. Last year Kornet made just over 2 million at Boston. So he would be getting a good size bump in pay with the MLE. Kornet doesn't have the bruiser body that adams has, but he is a good shot blocker and has a better shot. And Kornet is big enough to defend the bigs in todays nba. I don't know Capela that well. Brook Lopez would be incredible, but I would think he could get more than the MLE. Brook Lopez can be a #3 scoring option on a good team.

Brook is 37 or 38 and his speed is so bad now he was getting played off the floor. I like him as a 5th choice, but rather Kornet or Adams if healthy.

I still prefer Rocco if Raynaud and Kalkbrenner are gone. Maybe Condon.

Rocco is just so big, athletic and young. I want that upswing guy in the 2nd
Earth Rider
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I have good memories of Brook Lopez, but you are right 37 or 38 is way too old for a reliable big anyway. and if he has lost his speed his defense will take a hit. And I think we will be a fast pace team next year.

Being honest, I would be disappointed if we took McNeeley at 14. I just feel like there are better options.

Windhorst is pushing for SA to trade for Giannis. It starts around 5:40. But Brian Windhorst doesn't control anything.

He made a good point about Wemby will get the supermax, then really one other player can be a high salary to have a good roster. Said its really hard for 3 players to be paid max or close to it and have a good roster around it. It sounds like in addition to wemby, long-term we will be able to keep one of Castle, Fox, and Harper. Maybe we can keep 2 of the three.

If we do trade for Giannis, I wouldn't give up Castle and Harper. I would probably trade Castle before Harper. I am not for it, but I could see it happening.

I like Sorber, and would personally take him at 14 except he had a foot injury, and foot injuries can persist and be a long-term issue. He looks explosive in his videos before the injury, I hope he regains it regardless of who we draft and his foot doesn't hold him back.

There are just so few good bigs in this draft.

Agree. I like him. But we are basically guaranteed 1-2 of Bryant, Fleming, Essengue, or Coward. Plus Sorber if we want a center and Chicago doesnt take him at 12 or ATL at 13. Just depends which way we want to go.

Isn't salary cap the biggest reason NOT to trade for Giannis? I guess unless you know going in hell only be here for 3 years.

Teams with 35% max stars are hurting. That's for sure. Watch Boston this summer.

Fox probably gets 30% this summer. Giannis gets 35%.

Long term this is what the NBA wants. Each franchise picks their 2 guys to ride or die with and then fills out the rest of the roster with vets and rookie scale guys. This increases parody and limits superteam building.

In certain cases teams can circumvent this temporarily if a guy on a rookie scale contract plays like a star before his max extension kicks in. But this only works temporarily and eventually with the new rules you have to break it up or pay huge tax bills.

In the future I think we'll see picks 15-30 in the first round valued a bit more because that'll be the easiest and cheapest way to build depth. I think teams will target multi year college players there hoping they can be plug and play role players.

Color me shocked if the Spurs give Fox and 30% max. I honestly think one side effect of this new CBA is more teams will push to lower those massive deals and not automatically just max out everyone.

Spurs could play hard ball with him for sure, but the worry is that if they do it causes a ripple effect of negative vibes with the rest of the guys.

Personally I'd rather just give Fox the max, because it's not worth the headache to try and force a deal at 25% and possibly alienate Wemby, Castle and Harper by gaining a reputation as a team that doesn't take care of stars.

The NBA rules have always given the team a player is on a huge advantage by being able to offer an additional year and more on a per year basis, but we've never really seen teams leverage this fact by waiting to free agency and breaking out hard negotiating tactics to minimize the cap hit. Instead, if you want a guy, you extend him on a max deal early.

If he really wants to be part of Spurs culture he will be like Tim, Tony, and Manu and take a little less than market value for the good of the team.

I'd argue that having Wemby helps the Spus negotiate. He will be a supermax guy someday. So Fox, are you honestly at the same level? Do you want to play with him or not?

The vibes have been to build a team. Vassell and Johnson took at market or below contract extensions. I bet Sochan does the same this summer. If they draft Harper then it puts even more pressure on Fox to sign if he wants to be here.

If we do trade for Giannis, I wouldn't give up Castle and Harper. I would probably trade Castle before Harper. I am not for it, but I could see it happening.

Color me shocked if the Spurs give Fox and 30% max. I honestly think one side effect of this new CBA is more teams will push to lower those massive deals and not automatically just max out everyone.
I think his max is like 4y228M or something like that. I think we likely had a deal in place for the trade to go through.

Matthew Tynan said we wanted to wait until the offseason, but Rich Paul and Fox kind of forced our hand after Sac fired Mike Brown (who Fox loves.) Imagine if we could use the Chicago #12 pick and our other picks to go after forwards right now. Oh well.

I would like to see something like a 4y200M where it starts at 30% (about 46M) and stays very flat so it is basically 50M/year. In 2028, 50M will be about 27% of the cap.

That will make Fox easier to trade in those last years and I dont mind eating the bigger number up front.

My guess is that Fox gets a 4y deal that starts AFTER next season. Fox will be signed through 2030.

In the 2027-28 season, Wemby's extension kicks in, Keldon falls off the cap, and Vassell drops to 13% of the cap. We will have Fox (about 27%), Wemby 30%, Vassell 13%, Castle 7%, whatever Sochan gets (9%?) and Harper (8%). I think in summer 2028, if Harper has hit the way we think he has, we trade Fox. He will be 30yo and will likely still be on top of his game. Two years left on the contract that is flat. We probably maximize his return there, and hopefully we have him back as an All-NBA player with better weapons around him. The 28-29 season is when Castle's extension kicks in. If we keep Fox, that is when things start to get weird if we are contending.

So I think we can give Fox the max, but I hope he takes a little less in a front loaded contract so that he can be a better trade asset in summer 2028.

I think Fox's deal was agreed upon when the trade was made.

Pay Fox his money

You're gonna have 3 21 year olds or younger on rookie contracts

With the potential for more high picks in the next few drafts

If this franchise is worth 3 billion dollars or whatever I'm sure they can make it work

I don't think we realize how dynamic a Wemby/Castle/Fox/Harper core will be. With the Johnsons, Sochans, Vassells, and Champagnes relegated to greater supporting cast status.

Add in #14 as well though also possibility that's dealt for future pick or swap

If franchise is patient and that comes from fans being patient could see something special built for next decade
