I don't know if I posted it here but he was criticized for his shot selection, and he pushed back on that and said that it may be a bad shot for you. But it's a good shot for him because he practices it so much.

My Spurs offseason rankings of things I have enjoyed:
#1 getting the 2nd pick
#2 that quote from Bailey
I wish I could see one of those youtube reaction videos. Play back that interview split screen and watch PATFO's reaction, I can live on that for weeks.

I go back and forth with Bryant and Fleming. I am leaning Fleming just because of his unique size/skillet.Earth Rider said:
I read Carter Bryant did not participate in any of the 5 on 5 scrimmages at the combine. He did all the measurements and the shooting/speed drills, but didn't do the 5 on 5.
The article didn't give a reason for him not doing the scrimmages. If he did well in the 5 on 5, that would have really vaulted him and he would likely go top 10. But I suspect he didn't want to hurt his draft stock possibly but I don't know.
I'd be ok with us drafting Carter Bryant. He has a good highlight tape and has the length and quickness to be a good defender. I'd take Fleming over him because he is more of a true 4 that can shoot the 3. Fleming is more proven and has such a great shot for a big. And I just don't fully trust a player that averaged 6.5 ppg at Arizona plus he didn't do the 5 on 5 at the combine.
IMO the spurs need shooters, like Fleming. But we need size and if we Steven Adams or Kornet I'm ok with that. I'd like to get even one more big like Sorber or Maluach. We were horrible on defense when Wemby was out.
Last year the injury bug hit us and we were searching the waiver wire for a starting center. In 2024/25 Steven Adams didn't play in every game, like every other game or something, because he was recovering from knee surgery in 2023. He has had toe injuries, calf strains, fractured fingers etc.. So at Memphis in 23/24 he missed most of the season due to knee surgery, then at Houston last year he played every other game due to rehab, and he had several ailments that kept him out occasionally. He's never been healthy throughout an entire season and has missed games each season. And at New Orleans three seasons ago he had occasional injuries.Guitarsoup said:I go back and forth with Bryant and Fleming. His body is essentially Naz Reid with less fat and longer wingspan. That's what we need. And I think he could play along side Sochan or Castle at SF depending on matchups.
Wemby - Fleming - Sochan - Harper - Fox
Adams - Barnes - Julian/Keldon - Devin - Castle
I'm there. We have size advantages in both lineups. And that doesn't even include our BAE guy.
I think Yabusale could be had with the BAE.Earth Rider said:Last year the injury bug hit us and we were searching the waiver wire for a starting center. Adams is a bruiser, and we need that physical presence. But with that comes injuries. I like him, but I think we need more depth. A young 5 or a young big 4 would help a lot. I would take Adams, but I would want another big.
I wouldn't expect to sign somebody that is a solid contributor on a playoff caliber team with the BAE. Unless we get lucky.
I agree on Kornet over Adams. He had a hamstring issue last year, but those usually heal up especially over the summer. Nothing like Adams injury history. Last year Kornet made just over 2 million at Boston. So he would be getting a good size bump in pay with the MLE. Kornet doesn't have the bruiser body that adams has, but he is a good shot blocker and has a better shot. And Kornet is big enough to defend the bigs in todays nba. I don't know Capela that well. Brook Lopez would be incredible, but I would think he could get more than the MLE. Brook Lopez can be a #3 scoring option on a good team.Guitarsoup said:I think Yabusale could be had with the BAE.Earth Rider said:Last year the injury bug hit us and we were searching the waiver wire for a starting center. Sub Adams for Kornet. Adams is dependent on his medicals, obviously. I like Kevon Looney next, even though he is smaller. Then Capela and Brook Lopez.
Thomas Sorber is undoubtedly the most versatile big man in this draft class that I believe WILL return T10 value.

Being honest, I would be disappointed if we took McNeeley at 14. I just feel like there are better options.Guitarsoup said:

Agree. I like him. But we are basically guaranteed 1-2 of Bryant, Fleming, Essengue, or Coward. Plus Sorber if we want a center and Chicago doesnt take him at 12 or ATL at 13. Just depends which way we want to go.jteagle said:Being honest, I would be disappointed if we took McNeeley at 14. I just feel like there are better options.Guitarsoup said:

Windhorst is pushing for SA to trade for Giannis. It starts around 5:40. But Brian Windhorst doesn't control anything.
He made a good point about Wemby will get the supermax, then really one other player can be a high salary to have a good roster. Said its really hard for 3 players to be paid max or close to it and have a good roster around it. It sounds like in addition to wemby, long-term we will be able to keep one of Castle, Fox, and Harper. Maybe we can keep 2 of the three.
If we do trade for Giannis, I wouldn't give up Castle and Harper. I would probably trade Castle before Harper. I am not for it, but I could see it happening.
Teams with 35% max stars are hurting. That's for sure. Watch Boston this summer.Ag Natural said:Earth Rider said:

Color me shocked if the Spurs give Fox and 30% max. I honestly think one side effect of this new CBA is more teams will push to lower those massive deals and not automatically just max out everyone.

Spurs could play hard ball with him for sure, but the worry is that of they do it causes a ripple effect of negative vibes with the rest of the guys.
Personally I'd rather just give Fox the max, because it's not worth the headache to try and force a deal at 25% and possibly alienate Wemby, Castle and Harper by gaining a reputation as a team that doesn't take care of stars.
The NBA rules have always given the team a player is on a huge advantage by being able to offer an additional year and more on a per year basis, but we've never really seen teams leverage this fact by waiting to free agency and breaking out hard negotiating tactics to minimize the cap hit. Instead, if you want a guy, you extend him on a max deal early.
