Why is Pop even staying on in any capacity? He ain't all there anymore and it's time to fully move on

Lonnie had career highs in PPG, APG, and RPG this year.

He also has us taking Derek Queen and Egor Demin. That man hates shooting.

Hollinger said there was a lot of smoke that the Spurs were going to go after Will Hardy. But in the end, they decided to give Johnson a chance so he can have a training and full year. Take that with a grain of salt though.

Yeah, Hardy has done nothing but tank in Utah for 3 years and I dont know how much he is involved with the drafting, but Cody Williams at 10 last year ahead of Matas, Taylor Hendricks at 9 the year before plus Keyonte George and Brice Sensabaugh. That's pretty rough, even if Collier and Flip are decent.

I like Hardy, but I'm totally happy with Mitch+Brett Brown+Matt Neilsen+ assistant of Mitch's choice. And since we probably get Mitch at a discount, maybe throw a bag at Chip EEnnggllaanndd to be a lead assistant or something.

Cool story in The Athletic about Pop calling Udoka to give him some tips about how to beat Golden State before game 6.

https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6331685/2025/05/04/gregg-popovich-warriors-rockets-coaches-ime-udoka/?source=emp_shared_article

Also shared Pop's reaction when Udoka called him to tell him he got the Boston job.

Quote:

Udoka finally got his head coaching break when the Boston Celtics offered him their job in the summer of 2021. One of his first phone calls, naturally, was to Pop.

"So I call him on FaceTime and say, 'Boston offered me the job,' and he's on the treadmill walking when he gets choked up. You see him looking, and he starts crying, and he had to hang up. He was like, 'I'll call you back.' He broke down. His voice is cracking. And he hung up."

Just some round up player movement posts:

Marc Stein: I don't think Giannis himself does not want to go to the Bucks and say 'trade me'. But next year there's no way with Damian Lillard carrying a salary of nearly 60 million they don't have control of their own first round pick till 2031, they don't have a pathway to build a contender around him at this point. But the rumbles that you always hear are that just having Giannis is so important to them financially. They're not going to trade him unless he pushes it.

"I want to point two teams out to you: The San Antonio Spurs and the Houston Rockets. Both of them are in the lottery. I know Houston is still playing. They might win tonight. They're in the lottery. They have Phoenix's pick […], they have a whole bunch of pieces on their roster. What if they hop up into that top-four? Look out there." ESPN's Brian Windhorst on Giannis Antetokounmpo trade

Marc Stein on LeBron James: He's not going to be easy to trade at 52 million. I don't see him leaving 52 million on the table and just taking a much lower salary to go to the team of his choice. It's too early in the game really to give you a clear-cut answer on it, but I would say at this point it is more likely than not that Luka and LeBron will be back together as Lakers next season.

Shams Charania: "Right now, Boston is fully focused on winning a championship. That is the number one focus: repeating. But I can tell youthe rest of the league is bracing for some level of change to come to the Celtics' roster this offseason. Sources have been telling me for weeks now that the Celtics will be exploring trade options in the offseason. This teamthis iterationis just not going to be sustainable for this team. And no one around the organization, from players to staffers, would be surprised if there are changes coming to this roster.

Mike Trudell: Rob Pelinka: "I think this offseason there is going to be a lot of movement around the NBA. There are so many aggressive leaders of organizations that are expecting (immediate) success. I think there will be a lot of opportunities for to look at. I'm excited about what will come our way."

Jake Fischer: My current read right now is that we are not going to be hearing Trae Young's name on the trade block with Kevin Durant, with potentially whatever fallout could come from Milwaukee, or with Zion Williamson and the Pelicans moving forward. The Hawks have this young core of wings who all kind of need the ball put into their hands in the right positions.

Giannis on the rockets would be a funky fit. They have have serious spacing issues and their offense all runs through Sengun in the post. Imo Durant makes more sense for them if they're gonna take a swing on a big name to make a title push.

Yeah, I agree. But you can use Giannis as the PG and you cant really do that with Sengun. Sengun isn't ideal with Giannis because he likes a rim protector with range like Brook Lopez and neither Sengun or Adams should ever take a shot outside 10 feet.

I think Booker is the most logical choice for them. They already have the Suns picks, Book is just 38 and they can move Green and Book takes Green's spot. Green+Eason+Reed+picks for Booker works. Durant is just too old.

We need a lot of luck in a week so here are three #7s that can bring it to us:

First up everyone's favorite NBA champ that donned #7 in silver and black:

Next, per Soup's request:

And finally, the best Spurs player to ever wear the #7:

Obi Wan Ginobili

I mean I'd rather watch that than the wrestling match that the warriors rockets series was.

Maybe it's the early 00s spurs fan in me but I thought the warriors rockets series was far more watchable than last night's game.

For me, the Nuggets/Thunder series is the one we all wanted to see.

Pretty basketball on both sides (notwithstanding the 3-4 Russ moments per game when he forgets he can't shoot) and the top 2 MVP candidates going head to head.

Denver stealing game 1 makes this very interesting now as they put a bit of pressure on OKC and their young team. I feel like Chet missed those 2 FTs because OKC just hasn't been in that many late game situations all year. If they have to deal with game pressure consistently down the stretch, we'll find out what OKC is made out of. I think they'll run Denver out of the gym at least twice, but they'll probably need to win a couple of close games too, and that's where we'll learn if OKC is for real or not.

If OKC does make it by Denver, then I think they run away to the championship though. No one else looks good enough to beat them.
