I feel like you're right. I don't hate it but dang, Jenkins would be my pick as well.

While Memphis is paying Jenkins, give him a key card and let him work on scouting and development if he doesn't want to coach.

Why it would (and wouldn't) work: Go big or go home. If the Bucks have no choice but to trade Giannis, they make a multi-team deal that gets them a potential superstar to build around in the still-just-24-year-old Williamson and a rotational wing in Johnson. Most importantly, they get a whole lot of future firsts to give them a chance to rebuild if Williamson can't overcome his history of injuries, including a '25 pick at the back of the lottery, and potential control of their own first back in '27, just as Williamson is entering the last year of his current deal. New Orleans, after years of uncertainty, gets out of the Williamson business and moves on with a Strength in Numbers approach bolstered by Vassell's offense chops and Sochan's defense, adding to its young core of Trey Murphy III, Herb Jones, Yves Missi and the returning Dejounte Murray. The Pelicans also hold on to most of their cache of future firsts.



The Spurs' starting lineup next October would be De'Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, Harrison Barnes, Antetokounmpo and Victor Wembanyama. I'm guessing Chris Paul would re-up for one or two more seasons as Fox's backup. They would have other players on their roster, too. David Aldridge

If it's Mitch (and I felt it would be once we knew Pop wasnt coming back this season) he's on a short leash. I'm going with the "you don't want to replace The Guy, you want to replace the guy who replaces The Guy" theory. Not sure if we're a championship squad next year, don't think Malone is the right fit for this team and I love Jenkins, but sitting this one out seems the Spurs way.

I'm just hoping it's not gonna be a Doc or Bud. Younger is the way to go in my opinion.

In the meantime, send Pop to Secaucus for the lottery draw, that would be hilarious to me.

Expected, and, frankly, good timing for Pop to go into semi-retirement. Well-earned and a legend of the game.

Don't like that they're favoring continuity over guys who have shown more than Mitch. I don't think he's bad, but I'm also not sure that he's very good. There are better guys out there and this would be a sought after gig.

I'm ok with it being Johnson TBH. Feels like when the Celtics handed the reigns to Mazulla. Very similar profile though a little younger. There's going to be some growing pains, for sure, but now with the interim tag off, I'd be curious to see how he reacts.

This is where I'm at. Worked out well for Spo and Mazzula. I'm willing to see if Mitch can cook. If he can't, there will be plenty of options out there.

Exactly. It is also a possibility that Jenkins told us he wants to take a year or two off to spend time with his wife and 4 kids before he coaches again while Memphis is paying him.

Pop is the greatest Head Coach and front office executive in NBA history. No one in the world is more qualified than him to make this decision.

Dude i know you hate Pop but unless you think there's a coach out there RIGHT NOW that takes *this* roster (draft/FA pending) on a deep playoff run, there's not as much urgency there.

If Mitch is absolute trash, 1 year isn't going to change anything in a championship window.
