PSA: Pre order for the Chrome Update mega boxes starts noon central time on Friday. Judging by the value box pre orders the mega boxes will go fast.

Note that as part of the Mega Box preorder, Topps is testing a process in where these boxes that are ordered directly from them will ship without the plastic wrap. In theory, this should make them difficult to sell on the secondary market (note that the Value boxes with the plastic wrap that were part of the Tuesday preorder are already up on EBay at an 80%+ markup to the $45 preorder price).

This shouldn't be an issue if you are looking to preorder this item to rip packs at home to add to your collection. Probably not a good idea though to preorder this item if your plan is to flip it for a profit.

I like that. Good Topps.

Very. Was bummed to miss the value box offering but will be ready tomorrow.

$84.99?!
I'll pass. Unsurprisingly, they are still available.

What were they first time around?

You mean the first chrome release? Good question. I can't remember. Could have been the same price come to think of it.

I snagged one. Like mentioned above, they won't come in plastic. I had to check a box acknowledging that I'm aware the box will arrive completely unsealed.

Hmm maybe the first chrome release was the same price for the mega box. I'm sure I will end up ordering one. Or two.
I'm assuming these are going to appear at retail stores as well. Maybe I will wait until then because I can't imagine they'll be selling them at Walmart and target with the plastic removed.

Bought one also. Not expecting much but the boy wants to crack one.

Five yard mows should cover it.

Yall are tempting me to go outside my typical PSA 10 buys.
I don't need this

We are doing a box break / trading session for my son and some of his friends this week.

Anyone done anything similar? Any tips to make it more fun? Boys are going to trade packs before starting, will be trading singles and other cards they bring.

Any other tips or fun twists to add?

When we were 10-12 or so my best friend and I would play 1 v 1 basketball for cards. Have them do that.

That would be fun. They all play together on a team and we have a hoop.

Okay gang, need some advice. The grandparents are in town and took the boy shopping. Came home with a box of Topps Chrome Platinum. Ripped it, and....

There's only one comp for this card, one sale ungraded at $3500. Should we get this graded? He wants to sell it and use it to fund more card purchases (and something responsible when I talk him into it).

Yeah unfortunately his value has tanked. I can give you $100 since it's for your kid.

J/k I don't know baseball at all. Is he good??

He's a beast. Starting in his first ASG tonight. I'd get it graded, looks to be in pretty nice condition for a solid grade. Would also be tempted to just hold on to it.
NoahAg

I just noticed it's a 1/5. Way to go!

If that is a 4+ figure card, what does the grading cost look like? I know PSA is backed up like crazy and just jacked up their submission price.

I might go a different way. Maybe hit up a big card show and see what kind of deal you can swing. Try to make a trade for some cash and cards/boxes.

I believe PSA will upcharge the fee if the graded value goes above the tier the you paid for. If you get upcharged it is generally a good thing.

This is where speculating is fun. What does his trajectory look like? Possible flash in the pan, or the next Yankees great? Closer to Jeter or Kevin Maas?

I'd be tempted to hold it for a while. I'd think a strong postseason would only increase his value. And if he keeps it going next season?

Imagine having a 1/5 Judge rookie auto...

I have CardLadder and there is a sale at $3k. I would try to sell to a dealer at 85% if you can and get cash if you really want to sell.

A couple of things I learned this weekend about the Hobby (been collecting cards again for about 3 months):

1. Owning and running a local card shop is a tough gig. I went to my local card shop on Friday evening to redeem my Topps NFL MVP Stafford cards (I have 2 cards totaling $60). The owner said they weren't taking them anymore. I asked why as I thought the deadline to redeem was August 1st. He told me he was a having a tough time getting paid by Fanatics/Topps in a timely manner for the redemptions he had already sent in and the unpaid receivable was hurting his cash flow. He said given that issue and the fact that he was getting very little allocation for new products, he couldn't stay in the redemption program. I gave my sympathies for his issues and left empty handed.

It seems like this current boom in the Hobby has been great for the big name breakers and card shops who have no problem getting all the product they want from Topps in a timely manner at wholesale prices. However, for the smaller shops that are lower on the priority list, it can be a real struggle when they can't get reimbursed in a timely manner for running Topps corporate promotions, nor can they get product allocation at wholesale prices, so they are forced to buy boxes in the secondary market and price them far above retail so they can make a profit.

2. Buying singles takes time and focus. I found another card shop a little further away from me that would take my redemptions, so I went late Saturday afternoon about 30 minutes before close. Since there wasn't much available in terms of boxes that I wanted, I looked through the displays to find a couple of singles that I could use my redemption to purchase. I ended up buying 3 singles that I liked, but given that the shop was about to close, I went ahead and went to the counter to use my redemption to get the cards. It wasn't until I got home that I realized I should have checked recent sales comps on my phone. I checked and sure enough I paid almost double than I probably should have. So while I like the cards I got, I learned that when shopping for singles, I need to give myself enough time to research recent comps so that I can buy at a price closer to market value (I can understand the shop needing to price over the online market price, but I think the cards I got were too far over the comps I found).

Just get cardladder so you don't have to research. The amount you paid over comps this weekend wouldve paid the cost of an annual membership.

Needed to stop by the card shop for some supplies and picked up a 2025-26 Panini Contenders Euroleague mega box to rip for some giggles, and evidently I found the Mavs/Former Mavs box!
