So wtf are we getting for pick #8?
2031? Seriously. Why didn't they just go for the 2050 pick.FTAG 2000 said:

Timberwolves traded 2031 unprotected first-rounder and a 2030 swap (top 1 protected) to Spurs for Rob Dillingham, sources say.

Not a fan, but could turn out great. How long will Minnesota be good?

That move screams loading up draft capital for a player trade
Those were the only two picks the Wolves could have traded, because they don't own any other ones. The chances they are still good then with mid-to-late 80s Towns and Gobert is slim.AggieEP said:Guitarsoup said:Timberwolves traded 2031 unprotected first-rounder and a 2030 swap (top 1 protected) to Spurs for Rob Dillingham, sources say.

The Spurs draft strategies are like a kick in the nuts for fans. Maybe it'll work out ... 8 years from now, but fans want to win and the Spurs are weirdly locked in on extending their tanking and not getting better until some distant future.
At some point we need to use some of these assets we have and turn them into actual productive ball players.
For all we know we just turned the number 8 pick into two picks in the late first round. Puzzling move no matter how you look at it.
No one that pays attention to the Spurs and the 2025 draft class should have expected the Spurs to make big moves to be a contender this summer.Sher Thing said:
Prob a good trade in the grand scheme of things but sucks as most are hoping they would expedite the rebuild a bit and this is not that.
Still got Castle.

Trading away Dilly opens up an additional 6.3M in cap space.
Weak draft. Spurs created an extra roster spot, more cap space, and more assets from a team that is historically extremely poorly run.AggieEP said:
As a fan, it doesn't matter to me how bad Minnesota will be in 2031. I am living in 2024.
Also, if they are bad enough, we don't even get the 2030 pick swap if they get number 1.
The time to add young players is now, in 2031 when Wemby is deep in his prime I hope we're not hoping to add 18-19 year old rookies to our rotation.
