Unprotected pick and a swap for Rob Dillingham?! I'll take it!

Would have loved a young back court of Castle and Dillingham to grow up along Wemby

Well, that's definitely a transaction. Wonder if there's another piece happening if we made the pick for Minnesota.

The Timberwolves are trading a 2031 unprotected first and a protected 2030 pick swap to the Spurs for Dillingham, source tells ESPN.
2031? Seriously. Why didn't they just go for the 2050 pick.

Not a fan, but could turn out great. How long will Minnesota be good?

Unless we use those extra picks as leverage for a bigger trade

Who cares? They need to be building around Wemby now.

That move screams loading up draft capital for a player trade

Towns will be 35 and Gobert will be 38 for the first Minnesota pick.

Probably going to have a lot of value, I think they kind of implode after next season.

Those middle schoolers both weigh more than Rob Dillingham

The Spurs draft strategies are like a kick in the nuts for fans. Maybe it'll work out ... 8 years from now, but fans want to win and the Spurs are weirdly locked in on extending their tanking and not getting better until some distant future.

At some point we need to use some of these assets we have and turn them into actual productive ball players.

For all we know we just turned the number 8 pick into two picks in the late first round. Puzzling move no matter how you look at it.

Prob a good trade in the grand scheme of things but sucks as most are hoping they would expedite the rebuild a bit and this is not that.

Still got Castle.

Feels like a fire sale deal to me. They never intended to use the pick, but just held out for the best deal they could get and took it.

Those were the only two picks the Wolves could have traded, because they don't own any other ones. The chances they are still good then with mid-to-late 80s Towns and Gobert is slim.

They have no picks they own so it is going to be hard to stay relevant with the 2nd apron and no picks. They are going to implode in the next year or two.

I get it. We really are eyeing being a sustainable, competitive team long term. I don't hate it. But it's a little disappointing.

Spurs must be planning to keep our roster as is this year.

I wonder if they were out after Salaun was selected.

No one that pays attention to the Spurs and the 2025 draft class should have expected the Spurs to make big moves to be a contender this summer.

Trading away Dilly opens up an additional 6.3M in cap space.

They have been saying all along that 2025 was the year. Obviously they didn't think there was anyone worth paying at the 8th pick.

As a fan, it doesn't matter to me how bad Minnesota will be in 2031. I am living in 2024.

Also, if they are bad enough, we don't even get the 2030 pick swap if they get number 1.

The time to add young players is now, in 2031 when Wemby is deep in his prime I hope we're not hoping to add 18-19 year old rookies to our rotation.

Another reason why I think this is a move for capital to use for a larger player trade

What do yall have against dillingham? I love him. Insane scoring rate, but still efficient. Also hugely clutch. Feels like he hit a ton of last minute and overtime contested 3s against the Ags
AggieEP

Maybe a positive but hopefully it is put to some actual use.

Also I retract all my criticism if they trade back in and grab another young player. I get not liking Dillingham and selling that pick if it means you get who you really want later in the draft.

Weak draft. Spurs created an extra roster spot, more cap space, and more assets from a team that is historically extremely poorly run.

Getting a couple unprotected selections from a poorly run team when your generational superstar is in his late 20s is awesome.

More assets, more flexibility - much better long term.

OKC can take that risk. Good pick for them.
