I called nobody out on the cherrypicking... yet you responded. The board now knows what most have known for years... you cherrypick arguments. Now the board know that you know you do it.

Disingenuous as always as I was the only person actually posting stats and talking about his legacy. But that's just who you are.

I haven't cherry picked a thing, but the board does know that the next meaningful, intelligent basketball conversation you have to add will be your first.

It's not cherry picking to say that Kawhi was not an outstanding player in first few years or that there was no big star on the Beautiful Game Spurs team. Those are just facts that are backed up with stats.

It's also not cherry picking to say that Kawhi greatly developed from those years into a top player in the NBA. That is a fact and it is also backed by stats.

Now Kawhi is at a crossroads. Maybe he cares about his legacy, maybe he just wants to play at home in front of family and friends. None of us really know.

Thanks again for your future contributions. I can tell you are just saving up some really meaning insight and it will come out any day now.

The Spurs played 'beautiful basketball' and nobody on that team donned a dominant stats or minutes line. But what happened in the Finals was it was a 1-1 series, then Pop unleashed Kawhi, he turned the Jets on and the Spurs blew the Heatles out of the water. Kawhi won the MVP and the narrative to that MVP is and always will be that 22 year old Kawhi carries his aging teammates to their last title. You talk about stats backing up your argument... but then sort of dismiss that MVP since he was a 12/6 guy as being handicapped somehow. You being a Spurs guy makes your line of thinking cherry picking and completely disingenuous. And no **** he has grown immensely as a player now vs when he was like 22 years old.

Going to Wikipedia to find some stats to back up your assertion while ignoring wider context is neither meaningful nor insightful no matter what you think. I get it if it isn't your team... but you are a Spurs guy and know the headline to 2014 for Kawhi isn't '12 and 6' and never will be.

He was a 12/6 guy - which means he wasn't a standout all-star, which is true. He was young and raw.

Kawhi didn't carry the team, which is what was so beautiful about that team. They had great contributions all-around.

Your statement that Pop "Unleashed" Kawhi is on its face completely ridiculous and completely false. In fact, Pop said: "I haven't called a play for him the entire playoff. I don't call his number. Everything that's there for him is out of the motion of the offense."

That's just it with the beautiful game. Kawhi was growing and the rest were declining for sure.

Kawhi's stats for the series: 1.8/6.4/2/1.6/1.2 - incredibly, blocks was the only of the 5 stats Kawhi led the team with. That's gotta be pretty rare for a Finals MVP, isn't it?
Parker: 18/5
Duncan: 15/10
Manu: 14/4/3
Diaw: 6/9/6 (Diaw actually led the team in assists)

I don't dismiss his MVP at all. He played great - so did the whole team. Kawhi was very efficient at both ends of the court. And before you make a "he shut down LeBron argument", LeBron still got his as he always does -28/8 on 57/52% shooting.

The headline was the Beautiful Game. Perfect team basketball beats iso-star ball. And the Spurs played great team basketball and shot lights out (52%/47% as a team.) Kawhi is the up and coming star and Pop somehow pulled the Spurs out of nowhere to be a title winner again. Those are what everyone took away from that series and that year. The Beautiful Team will always be the narrative of the 2014 Spurs.

Kawhi was an important cog in the machine that was the Spurs that year, but he wasn't a star, and he wasn't a star the following year, either. But he made incredible improvements each season.

None of that is disingenuous, but your posts on here certainly are.

All great... fact remains Kawhi averaged about 25% more minutes per game when the Spurs pulled away in that series vs the first 2 games and lead the team in minutes in those games. I have no doubt Pop called no plays for Kawhi in those games... but once again, he was easily the most important cog to those teams and not just a '12/6' guy in that series.

Maybe Pop called no plays for Kawhi but again... disingenuous if you remember that series saying anything other than Pop unleashed him if you run down how much more Pop played him when the Spurs pulled away.

Pop even said he didn't unleash him. It's beyond idiotic that you continue to pump that non existent story line.

He played more minutes because he wasn't in foul trouble like he was in 2 and he played like **** (early fouls, turnovers and missed shots on bad shot selection) in game 1. Kawhi sat a ton of the 4th quarter in game 1.

This is the difference in someone like you looking it up after the fact and someone like me that watched, cared and remembers it well

The whole point of the beautiful game team was that the motion on offense and team and individual defense made the team win. Kawhi was important, but so we're the other 8 rotation guys.

With his history, I can see him having a year similar to Melo's 2019 season. There's a reason no one even wants to give him 5mm/year

I said cherrypick and aimed it at nobody then you took it personally and continuously said 'you add nothing to the board'... everything personal started and ended with you.

To the Kawhi question and legacy. If I'm Kawhi and I care about winning, I go to the Lakers and team up with Lebron and Davis. Even if Lebron falls off, Davis is young and best at his position in the league. Yeah... you can sign a 1+1 with Toronto, but Lowry and Gasol are both up there in age especially Lowry at his position. Davis and Lebron as teammates give him a better shot at getting to the Finals multiple times over the next few years than Toronto does. Clippers have a fun little team... but they are a cut below the Lakers and Raptors still.

I've never heard of him either, but doing a little google search shows that he went to Maryland, a school that beat the sips in football in consecutive seasons.

Layman was familiar to me because he played for Mark Turgeon (former A&M hoops head coach) at Maryland. Have mildly followed Turgeon's career at MD after he left College Station.

The above makes sense, that if Kawhi leaves Toronto for L.A. then it is going to be the Lakers. Clippers were probably toast once A.D. went to the Lakers and the best roster the Clippers can offer around Kawhi right now is a roster where the second best player would maybe be a 33 year old Lou Williams.

So Drake offering to make Kawhi a rap star while LeBron offering the leading role in Space Jam 3?
