What a twist to the Kawhi story. Looked like Clippers had no shot because, although in L.A. where Kawhi wanted to be, they didn't have another superstar to pair Kawhi with over the next several years and the Lakers had AD.
Then Clippers pull this surprise stealth trade for George to meet Kawhi's 'Robin for Batman' requirements, a scenario which I don't remember anybody in the media even hypothesizing about.

The NBA is a cluster**** now. There is no building championship teams. Just musical chairs off all the best players every year. That's not going to be sustainable.
Because the superstar players have a lot more power now to force/choose where and with whom they want to play, that aspect of the NBA has has pretty much turned into something similar to college athletics recruiting. Organizations have to be able to recruit the best players AND keep their superstars happy when they got them (otherwise off to the Transfer portal they will go!).
And certain cities like Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Miami, etc. will always hold a more natural appeal and inherent advantage than others.
A difference from college though is there are a lot more fans who are fans of the PLAYER not the team. The superstar players are their own brand. So there are lots of LeBron fans who are now Lakers fans, Kawhi fans who will now be Clippers fans, new Nets fans because of Kyrie and Durant, and so forth. That is why the NBA is more popular than ever right now. Because of the individual superstars and all the drama that revolves around them.

While they may lose a fan like yourself, they have been gaining other fans because the individualism superstardom of the NBA has apparently made it more popular than ever. Ratings, money, NBA is doing great. It isn't as reliant on die hard lifer fans of a particular team as say the NFL. The superstars are much more their own brand and they have fans that travel with them wherever they go.
Zion Williamson for example will now have a huge number of Zion fans, who don't really give a flip about the Pelicans but love Zion. And if Zion forces a trade or FAs out of New Orleans a few years from now, those fans will just hop over to his new team.

I'm a lakers fan so I'm bummed by this, but as an NBA fan this is setting up as the most wide open season since 1994. With a bunch of good teams and a bunch of superstars in their prime playing a fun style of basketball.
The regular season should be great.
Getting PG13 was quite a surprise to me. Jerry West has done it again! He's the reason how KD landed in Golden State. Now, he brought Kawhi to the LA Clippers and promised him he will bring him PG13. Just incredible.

Harden and Westbrook seem like they would be an awful fit. They are both super-crazy-high usage guards who need to dominate the ball, and tend to just stand around when off it (off the ball = resting time).

Between Kawhi and PG's camps, the Clippers and OKC, really impressive that there were no leaks or smoke in the media about this beforehand.
