I'm done with Wes

34 minutes. 1 rebound. 2 assists. 0 points. How is this even possible?

Ouch. Went to the Rockets game Saturday. I don't think the Mavs did a single thing well. Accept for JJ hitting some shots. Not gonna win many games when he's the leading scorer.

Being in Houston, I don't get to see the Mavs much on t.v. I knew Nerlens was skinny, but holy cow, standing next to Nene, dude has pencil legs! Seriously, I was waiting to see them snap.

I hate to say it, but I really wish Dirk could come off the bench as strictly a spot up 3-point shooter.

I bought tix for the last game of the season last week, just in case Dirk decides to call it quits at the end of the year. They are already priced as if it may be his last game, but they are a ton cheaper now than they will be once he announces.

I went into this season thinking Dirk would play another year after this one. But after seeing how Dirk and the team have played the first 3 games, I'm thinking there is a good chance he decides that this is his last year.

Noel is definitely a Tyson Chandler starter kit, even down to the pencil legs

Noel is definitely going to regret turning down the 4y70mm offer.

Same contract as Kent Bazemore signed.

Man that off the backboard pass at the end of the game was bush league. Really hate the warriors.

Naturally Wes plays a great game right after he gets dogged. Good for him.

On a more important note: Dwight Powell continues to be outrebounded by a 40 year old while Noel sits on the bench for FAR too long. Crazy he is playing such low minutes.

For some reason, I really thought this team would compete for a 7-8 seed in the West.

If:
-Dirk was still at last year's level
-Seth was healthy
-DSJ was healthy
-Noel was playing 30 minutes

Then 7-8 could have been at least possible.
None of those are happening so far.

The Noel minutes are the most mind boggling thing I've seen in forever. I just can't think of a logical reason why they aren't playing him more.

Oh well, hopefully we can get a top 3 pick. But that might be hard to do if Seth comes back and plays well.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if the Mavs put together a nice stretch of basketball at some point during the season. If winning is the goal, then all they will need is Curry to come back with Dirk's minutes dropping and Noel's minutes rising. That alone is good enough to put the Mavs around the 9th pick again.

It will probably be frustrating and infuriating watching them play out of a top 5 pick. I do believe that it is going to happen though. The same thing happened last year. It somehow worked out with Smith Jr dropping but I don't think lightening will strike twice. Pairing Smith with Bagley/Doncic/Porter would be the dream.

I know how silly this sounds, but I'd be willing to bet that if Noel had signed his contract, he'd see more minutes.

That being said, given how Carlisle's system works, he likes to play with lineups over several games- so if this pattern continues, no doubt things will change- it's just not at the pace we'd like to see it

I don't follow college ball. How strong is the projected draft class? Is there a clearcut #1?
mavsfan4ever

Very, Very strong. There are 3-4 guys who are studs, any of which could possibly go #1.

More just an NBA fan than any particular team and haven't kept close tabs on the Mavs recently. But watched some of that Warriors game last night and gosh Dirk (who I enjoyed watching back in his prime) was really difficult to watch. He can still hit a shot but the guy could barely move around out there.

May be time for him to hang it up. Hope they keep losing, we need the pick.

The past couple of years he has worked his way into the season and then starts to dominate like old times. We'll see. He's far from our worst problem unfortunately. Losing isnt great in any form, but the offense doesnt flow like it used to either. Guess this year is judged on how much progress DSJ makes, and maybe Barnes continuing progress as well. We'll see what it looks like when Curry brother comes back.

Look what happens when Noel starts and plays quality minutes!

Solid wire-to-wire win tonight. Couldn't find a weak spot tonight, other than Noel getting into weird foul trouble.

Oh, and there's something really weird about the free throw % on this team

Man I love DSJ. Already such a badass, makes the correct pass most the time and has just the right amount of cockiness.

Impressive to claw back into the game vs Memphis. This team will obviously struggle at times- but the guys on the team seem to really pull for each other.

Also- Wes has done a total 180 and is totally on fire.

Good sign for the team fighting back in an early season tailspin of a game. Down 22, but brought it back to lead by 2 late

Awful possession by DSJ on the last possession. Definitely looked like a lost rookie pounding the rock non-stop and jacking up an awful 3. I'm sure Carlisle will use it as a teaching moment, so hopefully he learns from it.

Yea, but it's not like the other four guys were making an effort to get open either. Too many spectators.

I don't think DSJ even looked for them though.

You could tell he had no intention at that point to pass, and I'm guessing every Mavs membe felt that way

Carlisle took total blame on that- said he didn't communicate well enough the plan on what to do. Maybe he's just covering for his rookie, but he stood by what he said.

Most recent Ringer NBA podcast take about how Now should have taken that $70mm because he won't get anywhere near that this summer

The Noel situation is strange. His per-36 number are pretty good but he hasn't cracked 30 minutes in a single game yet. I'm not sure that Noel (and his agent) calculated that the Mavs would basically move on from him as soon as he turned down their offer.

I still don't agree with how the Mavs are handling it. Noel coming back so cheap gave them a chance to run him into the ground to see what he can provide. Now he won't put up any stats this year and will be forced to leave to chase a 1-year deal with someone willing to give him minutes. Total disaster for him. He could have made a combined 34M from 2017-2019. Instead he will make 4M + 8M-10M(?) from 2017-2019. Seems like he will lose at least 20M over two years. Ouch.

I'm glad I have my tix for the last home game of the year. I am now expecting Dirk to call it quits after this year.

I think so as well.

I'm in Denver, and plan on being at the arena 2 hours before tip-off to see him one last time when they play the Nuggets.

DSJ will be fun to watch in person for the first time.
