Plays? Plays?

Pretty sure our "play" is Harden dribbles down and either jacks it or penetrates and kicks out, and we keep passing it around the horn until someone gets an open 3. If we hold up a finger like 1 or 2, etc. Its just to screw with the other team.
It is much more nuanced than that. There are a half dozen ways to defend the PnR and a half dozen counters to that.

You may be running the PnR, but each one is different and Harden is one of the best at recognizing what the defense is going to counter it with and reacting to that.

The surprising thing was the Spurs effort on defense and offense. You'd think that a Popovich coached team wouldn't have issues with effort, but Houston took it to them and were aggressive all night. It was uncharacteristic to see a Spurs team so lost and had zero cohesion on the floor.
It has happened a lot more than you would think.

Game 4 of the NBA Finals. http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/200506160DET.html

DAntoni gave Pop a 20 point less in the 07 playoffs before losing in 6. http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/200705080PHO.html

Then the Jazz gave the Spurs a 26 point loss in a 4-1 series. http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/200705260UTA.html

Spurs won titles both years. But really frustrating to see a team play that bad.

All of those happened on the opponent's home floor and not in Game 1. Like I said, it was surprising that they came out without any fire in Game 1. That being said, the series is far from over.

Interestingly enough, in the last 15 playoff series(including Memphis in the last round), there has been only one playoff series in which the Spurs did not win Game 1. In 2015 they lost Game 1 (in Staples Center) and went on to lose the series against the Clippers.

2015 Game 1 against Clippers

I'd say that Popovich really values Game 1.

Every coach values getting a 1-0 lead. No one wants to be down 0-1 and be forced to win 4 of the next 6.

Robinsons 95 MVP trophy can be found in the basement of the Alamo!

In our defense, we had to make room for all the hardware we've won since the Clinton administration: couple of Larrys for The Admiral, three more on top of that, couple of MVPs for some scrub named Duncan, three Finals MVPs for that same selfish dude, bronze medal for Timothy, gold medal for some crazy Argentine, another Finals MVP for a random Frenchman (just to be diplomatic, you understand), six Western Conference Championship trophies, and a Finals MVP and a couple of DPOYs for Pop's Kawhibot.

Just not enough room. Into the Alamo basement went tAdmiral's MVP hardware.
Did you just call him Timothy?

Maybe the extra game against The Raptors wore the Spurs out?

Hardin seemed to be playin with the Spurs with high risk behind the back passes, cross court and through the legs passes, but the Spurs were just too slow to make any steals. They were not only physically slow, but their reaction time was off too.

If the Rockets continue to move and react in a dominant manner, it really doesn't matter what the Spurs do.

If I didn't know better, I'd guess Danish Patel had something to do with this...

It's only human nature for there to be ups and downs in a seven games series. The Rockets knew they were being doubted coming into the series so they came out with a chip on their shoulders. Now the Spurs will come out and force the action and the officials will be forced to call it a little tighter next two games, the league never wants a short series with equally matched teams and there's at least 25 50/50 calls in every game that they can use.

Rockets are really the better team from top to bottom especially with their youth but they play a little too loose with the ball at times especially Harden. But one thing is certain, the Rockets shots falling or not as nothing to do with your "Mastermind Pops." It's gonna have more to do with somebody getting off their old butt and helping Kawhi.

Yeah, I thought Kawhi could at least keep them close with his talent, but even he was slow and unengaging.

Very strange to see a Spurs team so far out of it.

Now they are down a game, lost home court advantage and momentum. And were completely humiliated on national TV. Needless to say that we all know this might be the most important game 2 the Spurs have ever played in.

you're kidding, right? No coach is stupid enough to throw away a game in the playoffs. The rockets just demolished the spurs, plain and simple. Even 10 defenders on the court at once wouldn't have made a difference

Of course I'm kidding. It's called a coping mechanism after a tramatic event i.e. Game 1

Spurs home/away record was almost the same this season. 1 game difference. Not sure if it will matter. They've lost many game 1s and won series. I wouldn't count on 20+ 3s through out series.

Meh, the Spurs beat the Thunder by 30 in game 1 last year, we all know how that turned out.

You might want to put out an APB for Green and Aldridge because they didn't show up to play in Game 1.

Aldridge is going to have to play at an All-Star level in order for them to have a chance to win.

I think in this series any contribution that Mills brings is nullified by what Williams and Gordon bring to the table.
