Kawhi playing defense on Harden much more, inserting Gasol to starting lineup to stay big early and then going small with Kawhi at PF was also productive. Those were some nice adjustments by Pop.

Might not matter if Parker is done though.

Adjustments I saw tonight:
  • Ran the normal offense instead of trying to play through Aldridge.
  • Started Gasol and increased his aggressiveness on the offensive boards
  • Played Aldridge on Ariza instead of Anderson. Anderson still got his albeit mostly in transition and second chance points, but it kept the defense from getting totally mixed up.
  • Much better effort getting back on defense, rotating, and rebounding. I do credit some of that to putting Green on Anderson though, as Anderson causes a lot of the havoc by pulling bigs away from the basket.
  • Increased all of Kawhi's ratings to 99
  • Dialed back the hedge on Harden in the pick and roll, which improved recovery time for the bigs and actually seemed to make it easier for the primary defender to recover. Aldridge was mostly just in the way in game 1

Aldridge managed a replacement-level performance, which was a vast improvement. Really hope TP is ok.

This. I noticed that too and Lee scored 2 baskets in the paint when Harden was on him. I do not understand why they would not give Lee the ball down low and let him have his way with Harden.

Also, does Anderson play defense or is LMA just not in a rhythm because he should be scoring in the paint.

Harden's 'I just missed layups' when asked about Kawhi checking him all night was reminiscent of Lebrun trying to blow off Leonard checking him and locking him down in 2014.

Parker's scoring is going to be missed. I don't think Murray would be the right replacement for this series. The spurs are getting open outside looks. And Murray's jump shot isn't exactly developed. I honestly think Forbes' shooting would be more helpful to the Spurs. I'm not saying he should handle the ball, but I think he'd be a good option at the 2, giving more minutes to Mills, Manu and Kawhi with the ball.

I also don't see Pop giving the keys to Dejounte to start in the playoffs. That's a hell of a lot to ask a 20 year-old with no consistent playing time in the season. I think we'll see Patty start and play over 30 mins. But then again, it's Pop, the same coach who pulled his starting unit in the beginning of a third quarter in a winnable game last series.
