It's because we are playing our second unit for over half a quarter.
They have 7 new guys and it's less than 10 games into the season. Pop's system always takes time, relax.
Cant remember last time spurs lost 3 in a row at home, i knew they would struggle but man oh man
Haven't gotten past the second round in the playoffs since the championship season. With the Warriors and Clippers in the West, it will be a challenge to advance further this season in any case.azulAg said:

Can we wait to write them off until they have had a chance to play a few more games together? Chemistry takes time. I bet half these guys are still trying to decide which locker to put their **** in.
No need to panic yet. They've had slow starts before and everything ended up being okay. Heck last year we looked amazing in the regular season only to get bounced in the 2nd round.
Here's a couple of my thoughts a few weeks into the season and about last night:
It was great seeing Danny Green out there on the floor last night. It was pretty clear he had some rust but went out and made two three pointers. Those shots will come with time. He was 2/8. Before Danny Green was back, Kyle Anderson struggled bad on defense. He was playing out of position at the 2 and simply was not fast enough to play there.
Tony being out has been killing us. I know a lot of people can't stand watching Parker play this bad at this age but he still has a much needed skill which is his dribble penetration. Even at this age he can get to the basket, something Patty Mills is not good at. One of the reasons I never want Patty Mills to start because when he plays with Manu he can play off ball and just shoot.
Last night was just a bad mismatch for us. Harden was able to switch Danny Green and LMA on us at will. It was almost too easy for him. This would cause LMA to be pulled out of the paint and Harden could easily get past him and draw help defenders leaving Capela wide open for how many alley oops? 3? 4?
LMA is in a bad funk. A bad, bad one. We are giving him the exact shot he wants and he still can't hit it. It was hard to watch. He looks frustrated. Need him to start hitting those jumpers he's known for.

He's got big shoes to fill. Duncan called the defense and squelched a lot of plays before they got started, whereas Gasol has been MIA on defense so far and two perimeter starters have been out a lot. Basically, Aldridge has been playing with one starter from last year, and one of the losses was possibly the best defensive QB ever. It'll take a bit to settle in.
Defense also does a lot more switching than last year, thats a change to the scheme.
Definitely needs to step it up, but I'm hoping it will come with time.
Three wins in a row and no discussion. I think that's pretty telling. Not looking so great right now. But it's still early. Defense looks a bit better at least.

That first game against the Warriors probably lofted our expectations a bit too high. The Spurs seem to be moving in the right direction.

I think the Parker and Green bashing can subside. Tony isn't what he used to be but he runs the show with few turnovers. He's also a better on ball defender than Mills. Patty is great off the bench is a much better shooter. I really like Pop playing these two almost equal time.
This team is obviously still trying to figure each other out. The transition to more ISO with Kawhi has been hit and miss. It's definitely not as fun to watch but it looks like a valuable learning experience for Kawhi. He's got to learn when he has an advantage and when he doesn't.
Also, Cleveland proved last year that ISO bully ball is the way to beat the Warriors. As ugly as it is at times it leads to much fewer turnovers.

Was at the game last night. A few takeaways -
Those Heat uniforms were ugly.
Parker still has some in the tank. He used his spin move and it was beautiful. Missed the lay up but someone got it on the put back. Was absolutely vintage TP. He looked really good at times with a coast to coast and a handful of drives/jumpers that show he's good to go after the early injury.
DG is still getting his legs and got kneed in the jimmies at one point. Don't think he played the 2nd half. He was getting after it on D though which was nice to see.
Pau is definitely still lost on D. Several times you could see him realizing he was late and apologizing to whomever he was supposed to help after a shot was made. At least he's seeing things that are his fault which gives me hope he's still just stuck in thinking mode on the defensive end. Offensively he had some good moments and it was nice to see TP looking for him at times. It definitely seemed there for a stretch they liked the matchup Pau had and fed him 3 or 4 possessions in a row.

Kawhi had an unusual night even though he ended up with a good stat line. He had at least a couple TOs and overall for him seemed to be in a bit of a funk.
David Lee and Dedmon hustle like crazy. Neither will blow you away but I think both are valuable players. Dedmon had a block that was really fantastic. He missed some layup/gimmes which was disappointing but you can't question his hustle.
Overall you can tell this team is still finding itself. Sitting at 8-3 and still unsure who you are as a team? I'll take it. They may not be a true title contender yet but they could be if they can get comfortable with each other, especially on D. I'm excited to watch them progress.

The rotations were a LOT quicker, especially in scramble drills, than they had been so far this year. They were arriving with the pass instead of closing out after the pass. Miami isn't awesome but the hustle and recognition was still better.

You don't just immediately recover from losing the heart and soul of the organization. Duncan's demeanor both on and off the court leaves a huge void. It's going to take some time at a minimum to replace and to be honest it might be irreplaceable. Just enjoy that the Spurs are a good enough franchise to absorb a blow like that and still be a solid squad.

Apparently we're playing the mavs tonight. Been so busy that I didn't have a clue till just now flipping through channels.

I didn't know this either til a post by the Spurs on fb just now at half.
Mavs have 5 of their 8 rotation players hurt. Harrison Barnes and 4 undrafted players started. First time that as happened since 1999. Pop playing alot of the young guys. Murray and Bertans started. LA and Tony not playing. Not alot of rhythm so far with the new guys playing.
I just spotted Michael Finley in the crowd. The game is in San Antonio, so I assume he's pulling for the Spurs.
