Crazy that it's the Grizzlies. Even just two weeks ago it looked almost impossible.

I'm predicting a hard fought sweep. Two big wins at home, and games 3 and 4 will be battles but Spurs pull it out down the stretch.

I was getting bored eliminating the lowly Mavs every year... Bring on the Griz! I still haven't forgotten that series a few years ago. Lets destroy them!

The biggest problem for the Spurs would be that they have such an easy first series that they enter round 2 without having to play at playoff level intensity yet. Even if they start both series early, like April 28th (when Game 6 is scheduled) it will be like having two weeks off. (and really, that is a very, very small problem)

On March 5th, the Grizzlies were 37-24.
They ended up 42-40, so they went 5-16 over the last quarter of the season, including 1-10 to finish the season.
It would be like playing the Nets or Sixers in the playoffs.
The emotional tank is empty.

Considering we are staring down OKC in round 2, I would rather have the rest. Kawhi and Aldridge need every bit of rest they can get, because we need them to play 40 minutes a game for the rest of the playoffs.

Gonna be some '99 throwback scores. I predict grizz crack 90pts just once.

This years 6-7-8 in the West is the worst its been in a looong time. The top 3 seeds should all advance in 5 or less games IMO.

Quick turnaround for Game 4 looks like it could be tough for the Spurs. Hopefully the series is 3-0 at that point.

I'm just glad we didn't get the late slots on TNT. 10:30 games on the East Coast are the worst.

I am not sure the Grizz are healthy enough to get the sweep. They will probably need 5 or maybe even 6 games to close out the Spurs.

I'm normally worried about any playoff matchup for the Spurs, but I think they will handle the Grizzlies comfortably this go round. Grizzlies are incredibly beat up and have been losing a lot.

That said, I'm not a huge fan of the Spurs resting everyone and their grandmas the last week of the season. They almost had a five game losing streak going into the playoffs. To me, the rest doesn't benefit nearly as much as completely falling off the map the last 5 games of the season.

Based on what? Their almost perfect record on back to backs or the fact that the Spurs rotation is twice as deep as the Grizz? If anything that greatly benefits the Spurs.

You make good points. Just thinking about years past where were typically the team who likes the extra rest. Plus, we have a history of paying worse during day games for whatever reason.

in years past I'd agree with you.

But we're talking about Leonard/Aldridge/Green/Patty/Diaw who all eat up a crapload of minutes and are on the young side. Tim, Tony, and Manu used to get run into the ground before Pop and company discovered the art of rest. Those days of wearing down due to fatigue are now long past with this kind of depth.

Well I agree with you about this particular series but I would still argue that the extra rest days between games will be more beneficial for the Spurs compared to teams like OKC, GS, and LAC. Pop is still going to roll with our old guys a lot this playoff run and Tony and to a greater extent Manu, tend to historically play better on more rest.

Against a team like Memphis where they are literally depleted by injuries, I could see a short turnaround being in our favor in that particular case.

I've got playoff tickets if anyone is interested, and plenty of references on this board if you have any questions.

I'm interested, I just can't afford 'em lol.

Couldn't renew my season tix after taking on a mortgage. Sigh.

Incredible season to have tickets for, though, so I'm not complaining.
