he's already played a couple years in the D, so he'd have to give consent to be back in Austin again. looks like he was an undrafted FA signing with the Pacers in '12.

I'm already mentally slotting him into the starting SG role for the SEGABABA in mid January when the Spurs are in the Bay Area for Warriors and the next night play in Sacramento...

The Spurs have signed Guard Jonathan Simmons to a two-year contract worth the minimum. Has played last two years with the Austin Spurs and played College at Houston.
First year fully guaranteed. Second year is not guaranteed. Still more then I thought he would get tbqh. Spurs must like his potential.

It doesn't guarantee his chance of making the team this year but it makes it a tad more likely.

@jbbreazeale is a great twitter follow imo. funny, rabid Spurs fan, pulls back the curtain on media, etc.

10 years isn't enough? You want his jersey in the rafters haha

I NEVER would have guess the Red Mamba would last that long in the league, much less a Spurs uniform.

Pop's magnum opus?

Simmons has been really impressive so far in this Spurs/Knicks SL game.

Newest Spur Jonathan Simmons today in SL.

RC sure made it sound that way in his latest interview although nothing is definitive yet.

Some Simmons highlights from today:

You can clearly see the potential he has and why the Spurs decided to go ahead and give him a guaranteed one year deal. Kind of reminds me of a young Stephen Jackson. Guy came in with something to prove and plays with a lot of energy/fire. Nice to see and the route he's taken to get here makes it seem like he definitely plays with a chip on his shoulder. Obviously has a long way to go but you can instantly see just by watching his highlights that he has the tools to be a player. I'm excited to see his development. Definitely hoping he can work out here because his skill set is something we need and have been lacking.

I love it.
I loved Bruce Bowen as a defensive pest and a corner trey threat. And he was (and has been) an exemplary rep of the Spurs off the court.

But his number did NOT need to be retired. That is setting the bar too low.

Watched your clip and didn't see him dribble off his foot once.

He does have a very similar handle as his dribble is very high like Jack. Simmons appears to have pretty good control of it though all things considered.

Avery Johnson was setting the bar too low.

At least AJ hit a NBA Title winning shot, the first for the franchise. And he did go on to be an HC

But I agree, Avery was setting it too low.

Then again, so was Johnny Moore.

Moore beat out Magic Johnson for the assists title while playing under 30 mpg. The Spurs would have killed for a PG as good as him between the time he got meningitis and Tony Parker learning his tear drop.

Moore averaged 11.3 points, 9.7 assists, 2.4 steals and just 2.7 turnovers over four seasons while averaging just 30.9 mpg. That could have been the difference on some of those Robinson teams. I'm at least fairly confident that he wouldn't have thrown that around the back pass against Portland.

I like how reading your post I was thinking "but Rod Strickland was pretty good" and then you got to the jab.

Moore is also the answer to the obscure NBA trivia question:

Who is the only NBA player to lead the league in assists while his teammate leads the league in scoring?

If Bonner doesn't play another game for the Spurs, he will retire as #3 ever in Spurs history in threes made, just 20 behind Bowen and 1100 behind Manu.

Danny Green is #4, just 40 behind Bonner and 40 ahead of Elliott.
