Is Ginobli coming back and do you guys want him back? It looks like a love/hate relationship from the outside.
When I mention that I want the Spurs to pick up a big backup PG, what I'm really looking for is a Ginobili. He's exactly what the Spurs need to play the backcourt with Patty Mills: a guy who can defend the 2 or backup 3 but run the offense so that that Patty Thrills can do his real job, which is to sprint around like mad until he gets an open three.
The problem is that Ginobili is old and broken. He can't stay healthy for long any more, and this Spurs team is not going to be as deep 1-3 as it has in previous years, which means the Spurs will need more minutes from the players they have. IMO, 2014 was his last hurrah, the miracle resurgence that should have let him ride off into the sunset at the top.
If he comes back for ~2mm to play 12-15 minutes per game I would be ecstatic; if the Spurs are counting on him to play 20 per game and pay him commensurately, I think it will be unlikely that we make it to the playoffs with a viable second unit primary ball handler.
