The 2 things that worry me are a slash and kick PG backup and a SG/PG type like Manu. Both Tony and Manu are older and slower so we are lacking in that department.

CoJo isn't terrible but he's not exactly great either and Green has shown an inability to handle the ball effectively.

Spurs gotta let the dust settle after this. Gotta bring home Aldridge and then figure out the rest of the roster.

Manu not deciding yet tells me that if he does come back it will be for the BAE which is ~2.5M. This doesn't effect the Aldridge signing one way or another so his decision doesn't necessarily need to be rushed.

Regarding Patty, there's a chance he sticks with SA and there's still a chance he needs to be unloaded. All depends on the LMA and Duncan contracts.

Also, we don't know the final salary cap figure yet by the NBA. It was reported that it could be an additional 2M higher than expect. That alone could allow the Spurs to find room for Mills.

Spurs wouldn't have moved Splitter if they weren't hitting a home run with Gasol or Aldridge

If the Spurs can pull this off where they basically would have just traded Splitter for Aldridge, that would be an incredible offseason.

I wish it was Splitter for Gasol, but I'll take it

We may be hearing "LMA has agreed to sign with San Antonio" soon

Hearing that Kawhi hasn't actually signed yet. May be waiting until after Aldridge. If that's the case, we can sign him and exceed the cap to keep Kawhi without losing Mills.

Are we going to have to lose Beli, too?

Probably from what I have read. That is okay though

Can't sign Kawhi or Green until they get the deal done for LMA. Mills may still need to be let go depending on how much Manu and Tim want and what the salary cap is.

That's been the plan all along. Keeping Mills will still be up to Aldridge/Duncan contracts and Salary Cap figure.

Technically nobody can sign or be traded until July 9th actually. These are all just agreements between parties.

Couldn't trading Anderson also be a possibility? That would free up $1 million

Sure although from what I hear the Spurs have been very pleased with his development so far.

Spurs extended the Qualifying Offer of ~3M to Joseph also which is leading everyone to believe that Mills could be the one to go. Or simply they could elect to keep Mills and rescind the QO to Joseph.

From what they're doing right now, it tells me they are trying to keep Mills and that the Joseph qualifying offer is an insurance policy

That's probably the case but it wouldn't surprise me if they wanted to shed his salary regardless after knowing they were going to have to fork over a ton to Leonard/Green. Splitter is a solid center who is great defensively but they could be frustrated with the injuries. There are other guys they could go after if LMA ultimately ends up elsewhere. Tyson Chandler comes to mind with probably a little extra left over for another FA as well.

Probably a good guess. The Salary Cap figure could help them out tremendously.

Spurs owners are willing to pay tax this year, if it means we get a guy like LMA. They have been willing to do it in the past when it makes sense, and it makes sense this year because we have the tax threshold going up so much next summer that we wouldn't be in danger of being repeat offenders.

Spurs lineup next year could possibly be:

Duncan
Aldridge/Diaw
Leonard/Anderson
Green/Patty/Manu
Parker/Cojo

Yeah, that is worth paying a little tax this year. Need some depth at post, but that is a great lineup.

Or maybe, just maybe, they bring back Fabricio Oberto?
He's rested.

This will be crazy if the Spurs bring back the same roster trading LMA for Splitter. CRAZY

LOL. Yeah. Same here. I hope Lamarcus makes his decision soon so we can all go back to more productive lives.

Looks like it would be:

Splitter+Beli+Baynes+Ayres and possibly CoJo or Patty for LMA.

Still crazy.

Can definitely live with that, as long as it's not Patty.

Spurs aren't even going to get close to the tax. It's about having enough cap space.

I'm sure they feel very confident or might even have a deal in place already with Aldridge but in the event he doesn't sign with us, I don't see the Spurs all of a sudden backing out of their Tiago trade. They will then have plenty of space to sign a replacement and then some.

I meant same regular rotation players, but I forgot about Beli. They'll find someone to sign for minimum who can replace what he gave them.

From a OregonLive.com
quote:
Plus, there has been an unexpected addition to the equation: Aldridge this spring became a father. His son and the mother live in San Antonio.

During the playoffs, when Aldridge was excused from the team's flight to Houston before Game 3 in order to fly to Texas for a "family emergency," it was because his ex-girlfriend had gone into labor two weeks early.
Jaylen Lea Aldridge was born April 23, a healthy 8 pounds.

"He's fat right now, looks just like me when I was little," Aldridge said. "He has like three chins, and his legs are so fat, it's like 'Man, it's time for you to start running.' But he has big hands and feet and he has my ears."

It is a serious development for Aldridge, whose father was not a part of his life. He is no longer with the mother, but has an arrangement to see his son every other week.

"My father wasn't really in my life," Aldridge said. "So I'm going to be very involved, trying to be around him as much as I can, see him as much as I can."

If he isn't just paying lip service, I would imagine this is a very good thing for the Spurs.

I know the Spurs are rarely the hot destination for off season acquisitions but if LMA signs I bet the Spurs could pull a couple veterans to fill out the roster nicely for the minimum.

People always say it takes a year or two to gel in the Spurs system but that is typically because they are bringing in role players and budget guys to squeeze more out of and to learn a very specific role. That process takes a bit. Bring in an All star and ask them to do mostly what they have always done with some extra defensive and shot selection focus and the process would be much faster.

Still awaiting word on Manu as well. No indication either way with him so far.
