For as energetic as Cuban is and how he caters to the players in every way possible, how many times have the Mavs whiffed on big free agent signings?

quote:Mavs will definitely have some claims they can bring in a lawsuit if he ends up going with the Clipps. They could have possible claims against both Deandre (promissory estoppel) because they relied on his verbal promises and the Clippers (tortious interference) for interfering with their verbal contract with Deandre. It will be interesting to see if they end up bringing them if he goes to the Clippers.
How is this not tampering? If not, what's to prevent players from "agreeing" to sign with a team to tie up their cap space, and thus sabotage that team?
Also, I'm no lawyer, but don't implied contracts come into play as well?
quote:I'm not sure about that. If the NBA has a clause in their franchise agreement that says they all agree that no matter what happens no verbal or written contracts will be considered to be formed in the moratorium period, I'm not sure if that clause would be enforceable or not. I'm guessing it hasn't been challenged before, but I could be wrong.
Do the legal standards referenced apply to the NBA where a collection of franchises have agreed to operate under a certain set of rules and procedures? While I think this would suck, it seems like the NBA has its own set of rules.
quote:I disagree. I think Cuban will definitely sue or take some other legal action. I doubt he will sue Deandre bc you don't want to be known for suing players. But if I had to bet, I'd say he will sue the Clipps.
Nobody is going to sue. Better to make DJ look like an *******, the Clipers as pariahs violating the unwritten rules, and just wear the white hat.

Every. Single. Time.
quote:His career was winding down anyway, no matter who is signed tomorrow. The overall failure of the front office to draft well and the giving away of picks with questionable trades spelled doom in these recent years. The Mavs (Cuban and front office) decision to go whole hog after the 2011 season and let some key folks walk in the off-chance of bringing in big free agents (namely Deron Williams, and then Dwight Howard) was also a big eff up. There's a mountain of other issues, but these are the ones I can recall directly.
What a cruel ending to DIrk's career this would be. Deandre could put the nail in his coffin.
quote:Does Dallas still have their Amnesty? They could Amnesty Dirk and he could sign with the Spurs for $1mm.
No kidding, if I were Dirk I'd retire tomorrow.
quote:
How dumb can Deandre be? He hates CP3 and wanted to leave. Clipps showed no interest in him. He goes to Mavs. Then the Clipps realize they may have to start Javale McGee so they act like they loved Deandre all along. How dumb do you have to be to fall fort that?
Does he think that CP3 is just all of a sudden going to be cool to him now? It's going to be even worse than it was before.
