I love Deandre and I'm glad he's a Mav. If he wants to be a 1st or 2nd option he has to improve his free throw shooting.

Awesome signings, now and for the future. It's a great day to be a Mavs fan. Of course there is more to do. Let's see how it finishes up. Carlisle and co have been targeting certain guys, and have gotten them. Finally.

You don't need an elite pg. Before the rondo trade, parsons was really turnin it on as a Creator with the ball flowing through him.
new pg just needs to be able to spot up and hit the three,.not be.a liability on defense, and be able to run the pick and roll.

Pretty sure my statement stands. in our offense, our pg needs to be able to spread the floor, decent defense, and run the pick and roll/pop.
if we could get an elite, that'd be nice, but I don't think that is possible this year
Next offseason is another story
mo Williams or his ilk would be fine

Mavs don't have an elite scorer. Dirk is the closest thing, but he is more of a 2nd scorer now and Parsons and Matthews are both 2/3 scorers.

Dallas needs a PG that can create offensively. Parsons can create some, but he can't run an offense over the course of a season. Matthews can't run the offense. DJ can throw down and get put backs. Unless Cuban can pull off a great trade, even with three good scorers, Dallas is going to struggle without a point guard that can create for them. You simply cannot win in the NBA without a creator to run the offense. You need something much more than just a spot up shooter to spread the floor.

Had to have a core that lasted more than a year and has the potential to be the post Dirk Mavs. Mission accomplished.

Get some continuity going, and health, and use cap space in summer of 16 to get a high quality PG. Meantime, even with Jeremy Lin or similar, they are much better off because they have their guys in place and won't have to shop for a new team again like they have every year since the title.

Today was a good damn day.

Watching Dirk and Lin in pick and roll defense would be awesome. Maybe even better than Felton-Dirk in the playoffs.

The rockets managed to get to the conference finals without a pg...although harden is a much better option than Matthews for a makeshift point. The point guard market is dreadful this year and next. Needed a pg with that second round selection...but grabbed the Indian version of Quasimodo.

Definitely better because they'll have Deandre, Wes, and Parsons.

Isn't it pretty likely we will have devin harris and barea? I think they are serviceable.
It's all well and good to say you need a great pg, but you have to be realistic on whats available.

They have Harden that can create for himself and others. He averaged 7 assists for the season and 7.5 in the playoffs.

Your creator doesn't necessarily have to be a point guard, but Parsons isn't a great one, Dirk, DJ and Wes aren't creators and all you have left is Felton.

Part of the Mavs pitch to DJ was that they wanted him to be a two-way player, not just a dunker/defender like LA wanted. That is part of what sold him on the switch.

I remember people saying that no team with an average pg like Avery Johnson could win an NBA title.

If you have one of the all-time great defensive teams, one of the greatest coaches ever and two of the top 15 post players of all time, it can work.

Dallas has none of those things.

Building a championship team typically isn't something you do in one offseason at the snap of a finger. There has been one team in the last 15 years that has done that, the 07-08 Celtics.

Signing Matthews and Jordan is about building the core group of players so that they can potentially get out of the first round this year, so they can say to free agents next offseason that they are making positive progress. Next offseason the Mavs will likely have enough cap space for another max player (or multiple role players), and a near max player in the offseason after that. They likely won't compete for a championship this year, but hopefully by Dirk's last season under contract they will have made enough progress to lure the talent necessary to make them a legitimate contender.

Guitarsoup is fine, because he uses actual logic and tries to be relatively unbiased when discussing the team.

Carlisle is one of the best in the NBA right now, but I'm not sure anyone considers him one of the all-time greats.

Mavs just brought on depth at the 3 spot - Jeremy Evans (Utah Jazz)

Proposed 2-deep:

1. Jeremy Lin/JJ Barea
2. Wesley Matthews/Richard Jefferson
3. Chandler Parsons/Jeremy Evans
4. Dirk Nowitzki/Charlie Villanueva
5. DeAndre Jordan/Amare Stoudemire

I like the blend of a young core at the 2,3,5, with a wiley vet at the 4, and a pick and roll specialist at the point. The fact of the matter is that there are only 3-4 "awesome" centers in the league these days...I'm tickled that we've got one of them and he's part of our long-term nucleus.

Barea is awesome coming off the bench...still can't get over his performance in the 2011 Championship run.

No selfish player in that lineup (i.e. Monta, Rondo, etc...).

From the outside, it seems like the probability of excellent chemistry is HIGH!!
