He's going to have to see the court most likely. It'll probably be Harris/Barea/Felton at PG if the Mavs want to go after LaMarcus.

If they don't get LaMarcus, I would like to see them go after a combination of Millsap and Bass/Robin Lopez. Or get DeAndre and a min contract guy and wait for the floodgates to open next season. Of course a lot of the Mavs' flexibility will hinge on Monta and Al picking up their PO or not and if the Mavs want to re-sign those guys.
Monta is highly doubtful to pick up that player option. Someone will give him 10+ million.

Yup, which is why it will be interesting to see whether or not the Mavs will want to go after him.

Bump. Soooo been kinda quiet. Keep seeing talk on Deandre Jordan and LaMarcus Aldridge. Still need to resolve the point guard problem.

From Tim MacMahon (ESPN Dallas):

I'm hearing that Mavs are likely to try to move Monta Ellis in trade if he opts in for final season of contract before tomorrow's deadline.

Here's the article:

http://espn.go.com/dallas/nba/story/_/id/13138364/dallas-mavericks-explore-monta-ellis-trade-exercises-player-option

Woah. That would be huge. Says:

quote:
Dallas intends to pursue All-Star power forward LaMarcus Aldridge and third-team All-NBA center DeAndre Jordan in free agency, hoping to sign one of them to a max contract. If Ellis' salary isn't on the books, the Mavs likely will have enough cap space to re-sign center Tyson Chandler to pair with Aldridge or a shooting guard who is a better fit with small forward Chandler Parsons if Jordan comes to Dallas.
quote:
But Dallas doesn't intend to give Ellis the raise he'd want if he tests free agency, sources said. The Mavs, who plan to use Parsons as more of a point forward in the second season of his three-year, $46 million deal, want to have a bigger shooting guard who is a better defender and 3-point threat than Ellis. Potential fits in free agency include Danny Green and Wesley Matthews.

Not a surprise, Ellis opts out.

Rumors that Danny Green is their target for as much as $10-12M per year.

Great defense and 3 pt shooting...sounds awesome to pair with Parsons.

Latest Mavs news on espn makes it seem like Deandre is target #1. Lakers and Spurs ahead of Mavs for the Aldridge sweepstakes.

Wonder if that means a better Danny Green and/or a better point guard? Perhaps a push at Reggie Jackson or Brandon Knight?

Spurs will match Green at 10.

I've been hearing Dallas has the lead over SA for LMA, but not sure how well he fits next to Dirk since he is more of a mid-range player.

Where have you been seeing Dallas has a lead for Aldridge? Everything I've seen lately has said the Lakers passed Dallas in the Lamarcus sweepstakes with the Spurs still leading the way. I would bet that's why the Lakers took Russell instead of Okafor. Lakers think they will get Aldridge, Love or another big.

I wouldn't doubt LA has the lead over SA and Dallas, but I believe Dallas has the lead over SA.

B/c Dirk will come off the bench when TheMarcus comes to Dallas?

Yep, that's what I've read elsewhere. I have no doubt Dirk would do it if it helps get to another Title. At this point in his career, he knows his limitations.

Even if Dirk comes off the bench, LaMarcus is a 32-35mpg guy and Dirk is a 28-32mpg guy. That's a lot of minutes where they share the court. You aren't just going to slip Dirk on to a 13-15mpg role because LMA can play 35. Dirk is still going to be one of your best players, especially if Monta is gone, so you want Dirk playing as many minutes as he can while keeping some gas in the tank for the playoffs.

Good point. It would certainly be a good problem for Carlisle to have.

I hope you're right, but everything I've read has said that San Antonio is ahead of Dallas.

4 years, 30 million. Damn that's a lot for a team blowing it up and restarting.

Hopefully Anderson is ready to fill in where Aminu left off if we're unable to sign someone in free agency

I'd love Wes Matthews, assuming he will not have any lingering effects from the injury. If we can get him and Jordan this would be the first successful free agency since we've gone after big fish.

HATE losing Aminu, but DAMN that's a lot of money for someone that has not proven anything for an extended amount of time. He hasn't even been consistent for a half a season yet.

Just saw a rumor the Mavs may be interested in Jeremy Lin. Oh noooooo. Danny Green just resigned with the spurs.

With the rising cap, it's actually less than the Mid Level Exception would be this year. It's not a bad contract. People just aren't grasping how much the cap is going up. It's almost impossible to give out a bad contract this year.

So that's all-in on DJ, eh?

Can't help but think this offseason is going to be a ****ing disaster.

On the bright side, they drafted a big man that stands a 50% chance of openly defecating on the court.

So pretty much like every other off season, then. Spurs resign Green, probably land LMA, and Dallas loses Chandler and DJ stays in LAC.

Dallas then pays Wes Matthews like a gillion dollars, goes after Brendon Wright, and Dirk retires immediately (cause that's what I would do).

There is a difference between unsuccessful and disaster. Unsuccessful? Sure. Disaster = you end up overpaying ****ty players for a lottery team that ends with a #8 pick going to Boston.

Fair enough. That being said, I learned like 3 DUST chips ago not to count on Dallas landing any monster free agents.

All in on DeAndre with Chandler not waiting behind as a safety blanket.

I honestly can't see how Jordan would sign with Dallas unless he's just that homesick. He would be in the cellar for a few years in Dallas while they rebuild during his prime. All the while, the Clippers will be in the mix at the top of the west for at least a couple more years. You'd think this would be an easy choice for him.
