It really is such a waste of time. Let the players go home and get some rest. Most of their club teams are starting preseason training this week or next week. A bunch of them have been playing through injuries. Give them a break.

With the expanded field, they should move to add the 2nd and 3rd place finishers as automatic qualifiers to the next world cup. Probably never matters, but at least give them some reason to get a win. If that doesn't entice them, let them also be in the 1st pool like the hosts when drawing pools as well.

Then comes the moment FIFA sees 70,000 fans in the seats for a third place game. Look, we had 91,000 show up in 1994 at the Rose Bowl when Sweden met Bulgaria for third place.

FIFA will end up keeping a meaningless game because fans buy tickets for it. Since the game is going to be played tomorrow, let us hope that 2 disappointed sides field a bunch of reserves and make defense largely optional.
