Yes. That is exactly what went on. Do you watch the games? Coach Phil made all decisions. No discussions between Coach Phil and Coach G.

So just another reason why a change is needed. The "head coach", according to you, is not involved in coaching or game plan. That direct deposit keeps coming though. Since no "decision-making" involved him, why waste the money?

You don't seem to understand that I am not posting in support of anyone on the staff. To say this team was thriving under Coach Phil is insanity. This team was not good. The nucleus of this team played together for 19 games, still had no chemistry, and were 8-9-2, arguably the worst season in Texas A&M soccer history. So is that the fault of the players on the field or the fault of Coach Phil and Coach G? Or maybe it was a combo of both talent and coaching. Not all high school talent translates to the college level. A lot of times players are exposed at the college level because they can no longer survive on a reputation they had in high school. All coaches see players differently, so maybe there was a disconnect with the talent.
Yes G is responsible because he is listed as the Head Coach. 100%. G did not run the practices. G did not run film sessions. G did not make line up or substitution decisions. Yes, I agree, G is responsible for letting it get to that point.
Yes, Phil and Lori, as a team, were untouchable. Phil was once a top tier coach but had changed in recent years. That is apparently one reason we lost two top players last year.

What's done is done. Seth and Alyssa are young assistant coaches that actually know the game, but were apparently often silenced by Phil. We should hope they stick around and don't leave like Ahmad left the program. Ahmad was a huge loss for A&M soccer. Seth and Alyssa would also be huge losses.

We have to assume the girls that choose to stay will fight for the program because they are Aggies. Success might not come soon but being that Texas A&M offers one of the best educations in the country and is one of the top college environments in America, Aggie soccer will bounce back. At least there is a change and the program will be run differently than in the last several years. You all can go back and forth as much as you want but it won't change the decision Alberts made, whether we like it or not.
Let's support the ladies that are still
Fightin' Texas Aggies. They deserve support and respect.

Conspiracy time: I wonder if G purposely got the ejection and red card after LSU to throw Phil to the wolves against a high scoring Arkansas team who in paper should have beat us like 4-0… but he coached a hell of a game there

Ahmad was a big loss. Players respected him a lot. He's crushed it at USC and recruited Maile who has thrived there.

If he does that with male referees, then I expect him to do the same with female referees. No special DEI treatment given and I presume no special DEI treatment expected by the referee either.

I can just tell you several that are very close to the program have literally come in this room and said the problem is G. The problem is not and never has been Phil. Unless you are a parent of a player or somehow associated with the program and have a different experience, I think we should trust what they are telling us. G needs to go. The entire staff needs a rehaul. Will we support and pray that somehow our roster is miraculously loaded with international, national, and ECNL level talent after Monday. We will support the girls that are here, of course. But girls are absolutely NOT recruited out of high school soccer. Most elite soccer players do not play high school soccer. The best of the best are club and national players only. (At least they are recruited from club - not high school). Maybe I just misunderstood your point there which is possible.

I think you are seriously underestimating the power of coach G's negativity on the team and program as a whole. Historically, those in the program working alongside or beneath coach G spent an inordinate amount of time trying to convince him not to make damaging decisions or attempting to undo or minimize the damage of the poor decisions he did make. Even if we assume what you say is true about Phil making all coaching decisions (which seems laughably unlikely, but let's go with it), coach G is present at practices, when watching film, on the sidelines… His presence, comments, behaviors, etc. all have an effect. We saw two perfect examples of his tantrums with the refs leading immediately to goals being scored on us. Phil could be the best tactician next to Pep Guardiola, but that is not enough to stave off the fear, distaste, and confusion felt by the team in the face of coach G's influence.

Whoever it was that mentioned Lori brings up a good point. The Stephensons were there closer to the beginning of coach G's career - before he had as big a sense of entitlement. Having been there along the way surely led to a better balance of power and sense of empowerment to say no when coach G wasn't acting with the team's best interests in mind. I'm sure it was also easier mentally and emotionally when they could share in that responsibility - and others felt safer speaking up because it WAS safer when they could stand with both Stephensons.

Since Lori left, the team has continued to get worse. Alyssa and Seth are both young and unlikely to feel comfortable standing up to coach G. The director of ops is well-known for being coach G's yes-man. So for the last few years, who has that left to be the only one willing to stand up to him?

The only one who "retired."

One thing we can agree on is giving support to the players who decide to stick with the program. With an unchecked coach G at the helm, they're gonna need it.

I'm young so I'm not familiar with Aggie soccer pre 2017 when I started school at a&m, so I appreciate the historical perspective you all bring!

This G vs Phil drama is more entertaining than the soccer we put on during the game

How many games did you go to to observe and conclude with this sexist slur on his referee interaction?

If you want to discuss results and expectation fine, make those points.

An unsubstantiated concluding assertion and slur especially on this particular topic is wrong - especially with a guy whose career has been about empowering young ladies.

So did he flip off any other refs? Or just a female one? It was embarrassing for him and for our school! Stuff like that gets talked about…

Bashing your female players and then bashing a female ref makes me embarrassed that Coach G represents Texas A&M

But to much venting and drama being drawn up now. FYI coaches yell at officials from time to time. All of them.

So throwing shade at Coach G for that one is sour grapes to me.

It's not unsubstantiated. It's fact. G flipped the bird and used foul language at a female referee in the LSU game. And he was sent off with a straight red card after having already received a yellow card in the game. The referee could have easily given him a 2nd yellow to equal a red card and send him off. The actions of the coach warranted a straight red and that's what G was given.

In a must win, season on the line, game as well. He let his entire team down because he had to throw f bombs and flip off the referee. Which led to the games result. We win that game and are most likely into the tournament, instead LSU got in. All I was saying is that he embarrassed himself and the university in doing so. It's a straight up fact that he did that. I'm not making assumptions lol

Also, no one's entered the portal yet!! I have no connections to the team or players, but I don't see many leaving to the portal. We're losing a lot of girls to graduation and eligibility. Covid years are no longer a thing. So I'm not sure how we will replace the 10 girls we are losing. We only signed 5 freshman, none are elite recruits.

We didn't sign a goalie, and bring back only 2. Veronda after an ACL tear. We lose Matula and Fetzer on the backline. Bella James has a torn ACL and is only a month into recovery. Our only other defender that hasn't started is Mary Claire Torn, but she was hurt this year also.

I'm sure some girls may leave, but we have lots of holes to fill in the portal. After what G did to his portal additions this past season I'm not sure who would come, maybe we have to pry players from smaller schools.

I'm fully aware. The unsubstantiated slur that I'm pointing out and that is bull and over the line is inferring that G is misogynistic and only argues with female refs. He is blind to race and gender if he has a beef on a call.

No need to go somewhere like that accusation when there is plenty of other things to criticize.

Yes she's the first one that's made it public. Nowadays, many athletes in college soccer will share to a compiled website like in the links above to get their name out there. So some may have entered the portal but not made it publicly known. Georgia Leb is the first Aggie. I have zero clue who else could be next

Wow, this thread has taken off, just catching up. I do agree that things in the program did really go south once Lori left, she was the glue that held the team together when Phil and G made mistakes or showed favoritism with playing time. That really cannot be underestimated. I do think Alyssa was a nice addition, but what do you expect her to do when she is working for her former coaches who she looks up to? Things were no longer functional in the Phil/G soccer relationship, but they've been friends for decades so this was a certainly a tough change to make.

I think we all know the issues with G at this point, but my bigger concern going forward is with Trev. I do think that only having 1 season left on his contract was the deciding factor to keep him (I didn't realize it ran out in March 2026 instead of through the 2026 season). And notice that there has been no announcement of a contract extension beyond next season (almost a sure sign that an AD is basically saying a change will be made after next season). So it's obvious that Trev is following the long, disappointing, and short-sighted pattern of allowing a minor sport coach to finish out their contract instead of making the necessary change when needed. He should have had a plan in place to make the change now to keep the program from completely imploding like we could see now in the offseason. The program has become toxic and dysfunctional, especially among the fans who follow it closely, as evidenced by the long discussion here from many newcomers to the board. I don't know how this ship is righted next year. A change needs to be made.

As a long time follower and supporter of the program, the last four years has been difficult and sad to watch. It hasn't been very inspiring to comment much on the games or really care about lineup changes or strategy because nothing was working. Everyone knows something is wrong but our leaders refuse to address it because of budget constraints. This is not a good sign for the future of our minor sports programs if Trev approaches all of them this way. But I guess this gives him a full year to find the next head coach at A&M. Let's just hope we don't become the next Florida type program.

Yeah, our minor sport approach is horrible. We need to rip the band-aid off when it's time to move on. I guess the transfer portal lessens the need to make an immediate change.

I think the 75 million and the new 20 million annual rev share and extra schollies across various sports is impacting these decisions. Once we get the Jimbo cash and where the money is coming from figured out, I suspect Trev will make decisions a bit quicker.

But this happened under Bjork with Evans, Childress, and Blair. I think Corbelli was on her last year in her contract when she resigned under Woodward. Seems more of an institutional approach.
