Sure, all coaches are gonna say that. But it reminds me that he brought in a bunch of transfer players this year to specifically make an impact on our offense and he still started the returning players most of the year, ignoring all of those tranfers.
Since he will still be around we have to 'hope' that the new guy is really good, G allows him latitude to put in a different system and our players are able to adjust and use their talent.
Will just have to wait and see but it will be a very long wait.
G had to throw Phil under the bus to keep his job. Not that it wasn't deserved. I'm very interested to see who will take the job. To get a top assistant/associate head coach you would think G would have to guarantee he would retire when his contract is up. That's also risky for an incoming top coach if the next 2 season are similar to this season. We seem to be just prolonging the inevitable.
This isn't like Iowa football where if only we can find a great OC this program would be in great shape. An assistant coaching change isn't making a huge difference I don't believe. Or a closer to home example; an assistant coach wasn't going to save Jimbo.

In regards to that article, G did say in August that this was one of the most talented rosters he's ever had and that they can easily be contending for the college cup… so I wouldn't trust him evaluating anything lol

Bc they top teams will just take more of the top talent and G will let this team descend even further towards AAC talent

Yeah, Phil wasn't the problem. This is a save your job move unless Phil volunteered at some point during the season to be the scapegoat. Don't see how this changes much going into next year. Trev probably going to allow G to finish out his contract, 2 more years.
Roster spots didn't double; it shrunk from 35 to 28. The maximum number of scholarships did double from 14 to 28 but at most 28 athletes can receive scholarships. What is going to happen is the back end of the rosters will be cut to save money that is needed to offset the cost of the increase in scholarships.
What assistant is going to come here knowing G's contract is up in 2 years and it not getting extended without a spectacular season next year? This just delaying the inevitable.
My thinking is maybe a young assistant from a top program who knows he can inherit this program once G's gone… but that's a tough risk! Why come and play for a mediocre program who has a head coach that'll never take accountability for anything and who's recruiting hasn't been so strong the past few years…
Aside from Calzada, Armenta, Matula, and Becerra I'm not sure what this lineup would look like… don't see many balls going into the net next year
