Looks like it's time for this thread. Bad losses before conference season has even started. Pulled in some suggestions already posted on the other page:

Eric Bell, TCU HC
Ben Waldrum, Pitt Associate HC

*I did not come up with the coaches above

Here are some others:
Michelle Lenard, Baylor HC

Just some of my thoughts on your list and added a few.

Eric Bell, TCU HC - not sure if he would be interested but very solid coach that has built his own program into elite program.

Ben Waldrum, Pitt Associate HC - I know more about his dad than him. Not sure if his credentials stand up to what we need but really don't know him that well.

Nick Zimmerman, Miss St Associate HC - don't really know him. Looked him up and he does not have a lot of experience. So someone would need to tell me what he brings.

Michelle Lenard, Baylor HC - not sure why you would consider her. Not a fan.

Manny Martins, Utah State HC - don't really know much about him. Would have to see what would make him a good fit at a big school in SEC. He has definitely put Utah state on the map. Could be a good one.

Colby Hale, Arkansas HC - great coach that also built a great program. Not sure he would want to leave program he built and would need to consider his family. He might be a little older than what was hoping for

Bobby Shuttlesworth, FSU Associate HC - dynamic guy but does not have much coaching experience. He probably needs time to develop. Being at FSU great place to learn.

Ryan Higginbotham, TCU Associate HC - would prefer someone that is younger and up and comer if they are an assistant coach. Think he is a little old for me.

Jeff Hosler - Michigan State HC - really like this guy. He recruits top talent nationally and has made a big impact at MSU quickly. But he is an East Lansing native and has kids in school that might be touch to get him.

Katie Shields - St Louis HC - has built a good program at a mid-level conference program that might be interested in jumping to the next level.

Dean Ward - Xavier HC - relatively young head coach with good amount of success at two programs. Took Xavier to an elite eight last year. He has experience in the SEC as assistant coach at Tennessee and also west coast experience at Loyola Marymount. Also has experience with coaching top level girls at the ECNL level. He is originally from England so real footballer.

I'm a very novice soccer fan who just started getting into the sport a few years ago so I have no knowledge on coaching candidates, but I appreciate the tidbits y'all are sharing!!! With the whole portal, I believe getting the right coach to come here can turn us into a contender quickly!! We need someone with ties to the state so we can attract in state talent!! I know we have a solid history, a nice stadium, and solid resources to go with a hot recruiting bed of talent in state! But my question is how does this job fare nationally, would elite coaches be drawn here? How is our support compared to other big brand schools?

WHY? Where the heck does anyone remotely think he would be going?

It is amazing how poorly we handle contracts in the athletic department, but I guess you can say we are at least consistent. So frustrating.

he did the same thing to Evans in softball. My only theory is they did that for fund raising for the new upgrades. Other than that I can't why they would have extended him

One reason for the extension has to be "to show recruits you're in this for a lot more time" especially for an older coach like G…

Looking back, in 2021 we had a losing record and went 3-6 in conference play… then in 2022 another losing record in conference and we just snuck into the tournament when many thought we didn't deserve to be in, we lost to tu first round 3-1, so Bjork and the athletic department thought omg we made the tournament let's extend G…

I am not sure how viable Eric Bell is as a coach, but I would LOVE for them to hire someone who implements his system of modern, possession soccer instead of this archaic kick it long kick it far philosophy.

It is well past time for a coaching change. Look at what the changes to softball and volleyball have done.

Come on Alberts, wake up and do what needs to be done.

we do not currently have the athletes to compete at the highest level. recruiting and coaching are a huge part of that. ESPECIALLY when you lose athletes that are excelling elsewhere. should tell you a lot about the mentality of our staff and also what parents with the best athletes think of our program currently. i am friends with a family that graduated from texas a&m; their daughter is a high school freshman ELITE ELITE goalie - all over national media for her club. i always ask them about recruiting and if she's considering texas a&m and they just laugh. they are not fans of G, at all. sad that they have no intentions of their daughter even looking at A&M because of him.

i think if we played the sips at home this year it would speed up the coaching change. Unless Trev doesn't care, but a stadium full of sip fans might change his mind. We sit on the northwest side, we had to chase LaTech parents from our seats. I can't imagine how bad it will be when the sips come.

The program is stale and we have lost our will to win. Girls seem resigned to losing and there is no real leadership. 32 years and we are regressing .

I didn't suggest Eric Bell, but I think he would THRIVE at A&M. He went to TCU from FSU when they were winning national championship in like 2010. He's a primo recruiter and has TCU producing NWSL talent every year. Ryan Higginbotham is his assistant there and has strong recruiting ties to Texas. Either one would be a quality hire at a "bigger" soccer program like A&M.

I think Ben Waldrum is a product of his dad. He's always been as asst to Randy and Randy is the big time coach. There's a reason Ben hasn't gotten a full-time HC job. There's some baggage there. If A&M could hire Randy away from Pitt, that would be amazing. He's done amazing things everywhere he's been, but he's on the older side. But if you can get a World Cup coach, you take it any time.

Michelle Lenard is an up-and-comer. She had teeny-tiny Dallas Baptist in the Sweet 16 or Elite 8 of the D2 NCAAs every year and plays a style that youth coaches are focusing on these days. They play on the ground and build nicely. She's gotta change over from the bully ball system that Baylor played for a long time but it's going to happen. She's connected to Texas youth systems as well.

Hale has been adaptable in style of play. I'm not a big fan but he gets players and wins in a soccer desert. something must be said about having success in Arkansas and recruiting the midwest. He'd kill it in recruiting Texas kids with some midwest additions.

I don't know anything about Martins, but if you've got Utah State in the top 10 then you deserve an interview at A&M cuz you're doing something right.

Shuttlesworth is fast-rising and a really good recruiter.

AD Scott Woodward is the one who extended Coach Evans contract. He also botched the women's golf coach hire as well as huge salary attached to that. Finally he hired Jimbo who ended up costing us alot of money

There a few of the first but PLENTY of the latter out there. You don't have to look far for the latter either.

I haven't heard Waldrum's name in years. I played with his son at the club/state level for a bit. Nice dude and his dad was awesome.

If we were to make a change, few of those names would be considered. Maybe Bell or one of the young up and comers, but A&M will not hire an assistant coach. This is a big job with a solid program history and respected nationally. And with a new stadium coming soon and I suspect a new NIL fund, it will be a very attractive job. I think we will target some big name coaches first, then work our way down the list of what Alberts wants in a coach.

If I were making the decision, I would call Mark Krikorian first and offer him whatever he wanted, even if it was just for a short time (5 years or less) just to get the program back in the elite circles again, which would make hiring the next top coach after him even easier. If it does become apparent that we might make a change (which I still doubt right now), I'll come up with a more detailed list of candidates who should be considered, assuming we are willing to pay top dollar.

Given that all SEC schools are looking for an additional $20-22M per year related to the House settlement, I just don't think things are going to play out like they might have in the past in non-revenue sports. I just don't think you are going to see incremental funds spent there.
ColoradoMooseHerd
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I really don't think Mark Krikorian would ever be an option, but someone could make a call. He retired from the top program in the country because he did not want to coach anymore. He went out on top, winning 3 National championships in the last 7 or 8 years.

He is now the president of the Washington Spirts doing what he supposedly wants to do. Soccer is a non-revenue sport so nobody is going to throw crazy money at someone for just a couple year option

Krikorian is older than G, right? and he's got a cushy job in the NWSL these days with next to no travel unless he wants it.

Bell would be good, IMO. But I'm not sure there are a bunch of current head coaches out there that really move the needle. I'm sure it will be a hot job but any top 15 program's coach is already comfortable where they are. Money could change things but I'm not sure facilities will (like with the former USC coach moving to Georgia a few years ago).

Do you think the realignment could draw a proven head coach from an old Pac school that doesn't want to travel to Big 10 territory half the season?

One thing....... PLEASE O PLEASE don't let the next coach be Phil Stephenson and the team remains status quo. That would be the worst decision ever.
King Koda
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Krikorian didn't leave because he was tired of coaching. There were other issues regarding being fairly compensated for the type of program he had built. He is also loving his job right now and is set up to be a king eh queen maker in the world of soccer being the right hand person for Michelle Kang.

Bell would have been the leading candidate for FSU (he was a Krikorian disciple) if he wanted to leave TCU. I think he is very happy with the way he and Higgi are building TCU and will be there for a while.

I have it on good authority that Damon Nahas is not getting the interim tag removed from him at UNC. Former players are making a strong push for someone not connected through coaching to Anson and more than likely a former player. MIght be worth a call.
