Emma Hayes is the real deal.
But but manager at the international level doesn't matter.

Group stage match without the host country playing so not entirely unexpected.AustinScubaAg said:
This is the second most important tournament for women's national teams. Amazing to see so many empty seats.

Davidson and Shaw are both ruled out of the match against Australia. Sonnett starts as CB next to Girma. We have no more CB's left on the roster!
Absolutely was correct and it wasn't even close to being offside.fig96 said:
Think that was the correct call, player was in an offside position but didn't appear to affect the play at all.
There was a player in an offside position that did not interfere in the play.Rudyjax said:Absolutely was correct and it wasn't even close to being offside.fig96 said:

Kind of odd they did not force a forfeit of their first game and then a 3 point deduction. 6 points in a 12 team tournament was unlikely to hurt them given their group.jeffk said:

I didn't say there wasn't. Just being in an offside position is not an offside offense.
She was no where near the keeper and no defender that even moved.
Not even close to offside.
And Tim Ream won't be there for too much longer.fig96 said:
There's like 4 players in primary rotation on the USMNT who are over 25.
I expect to see Tim Ream playing into his 50sjessexy said:And Tim Ream won't be there for too much longer.fig96 said:

Now if we can find a solid replacement for Matt Turner we might get to a better spot sooner than later.
The two situations couldn't be further apart. USWNT was mired in cronyism because that team is the gravy train for its players, so removing someone means cutting them off from their main source of income. And vice-versa… keeping the stars playing is good for merch and ticket sales. They actively ignored players who were doing better at their clubs just to let their stars ride into the sunset awhile longer.Danger Mouse said:
I was telling my brother that it was great that they got rid of the old players and allowed the younger players control the destiny of the USWNT. I think the USMNT should follow suit. Our men's Olympic team (primarily our U-23) plays significantly better than the senior team.
Exactly. Not long ago the average age of the starters was 31. For these olympics it's 27.deadbq03 said:The two situations couldn't be further apart. With a few debatable exceptions, the men's team has the guys who are playing at the highest level. No one is getting egregiously left out for an old star.
Yeah, but we all know why they are.Danger Mouse said:
My main point is that the USMNT is underachieving.

Luckily, we're not doing the same thing and hoping for the same results. Recently, they've changed the NWSL rules to allow minors in. We had a 14 year old make her debut this season. Kennedy Fuller, King Koda's daughter, should be going into her senior year and playing well in the NWSL.Who?mikejones! said:Danger Mouse said:

Is it?
Men's soccer is a different beast than women's.
In a world that almost singlehandedly focuses on men's soccer, it's the 4th, at best, most popular sport. Time, money, athletes have for generations gravitated towards sports other than soccer. In other nations, men's play almost exclusively soccer.
American women, until the last decade or so, have enjoyed a nearly exclusive opportunity to beco.e professional athletes. Laws have been crafted to make it easier. Money, time, effort have all been poured into female athletes at scales not seen anywhere else. There's not a social stigma against a woman pursuing a professional career.
It's neither surprising nor unpredictable that American women have dominated the soccer world while the men have struggled. It would be surprising if that was flipped.
I do wonder if the American women will lose their place of dominance now that Europe has heavily invested into professional women's soccer while the professional leagues here are still amateurish.
