Yes, a nice score line and exciting goals by Alyssa Thompson (10th cap, 1st goal) and Jaedyn Shaw (8th international goal) and Sophia Smith. But Iceland is respectable, #13 in FIFA ranking, and proved to be no slouch, scoring once and threatening quite a number of times, especially in the first half. They surrendered the possession advantage but had very good counterattacks. Very physical. Our defense looked good but beatable at times, especially when the ball was lost in our half of the field. Sophia Smith and Alyssa Thompson had very nice goals, and Iceland's lone tally matched theirs in style. Shaw's goal was more workmanlike. She beat Iceland defenders on the dribble and then beat the goalkeeper the same way on what appeared to be a toe poke. Great grit and determination on her part.
The USA plays Iceland again on Sunday, and then Argentina on Wednesday.
